Most of these drawings are v neat. I've always enjoyed looking at art but I've never had an ounce of creativity. I've never been able to get the hang of drawing and now that I'm in me late 20's I just have no enthusiasm to try get into another hobby I just give up after a few months.
What age did ya'll start at?

i started maybe five years ago, as part of art therapy in a hospital. it felt good to call things forth out of nothingness, it felt like old powerful magic. i made terrible pathetic looking things at first but i was proud of them anyway and kept nurturing the tiny sapling that was my creativity until it blossomed into something less terrible and pathetic looking.

its never too late to start, and it feels really good (i assume having a child is like making art times infinity since the thing you make is actually alive, and thats why people do it) so definitely try and enjoy yourself and dont judge yourself harshly at all, just have fun

i only have actual training in metalworking and jewelling, i just gently caress around with drawing because it's fun, or because i want to draw something funny :)

or because maybe i can make money from creating assets

My mom is in her mid 50s and i taught her what i could and ive watched her become a pretty capable amateur artist in her own right and now knows way more than me.

I got serious with art around 16. Its something that needs your time. An hour a day maybe. Its not unlike learning an instrument however, part of the fun in making things is taking mistakes and integrating them into your work which isn't something you can always do in other creative forms.

Id be way better if i spent the same amount of time on it that i did as a teen, but i had the time back then. I only do this for myself so putting lots of time in it doesnt make sense right now. But thats what it takes. An hour a day, keeping up and not giving up when your first doodles and compositions are lovely and you know it.

Did you marry a man who married the sea? He looks right through you to the distant grey - calling, calling..
I don't know if this is art or what, but I make dioramas.

Here's one my wife and I made last year of the Nautilus from 20,000 leagues.

And here's one that's still a very early work-in-progress based on an Edward Hopper painting. Still needs a lot of fiddling with positioning to get all the angles right but I think I can get there. Tweezers give a bit of a sense of scale.

I like coding and electronics and things that are interactive so I decided to make interactive installations for a living. I'm not super good at coding or electronics but I'm good at figuring stuff out using the internet and combining things to make working prototypes, which is why I make art and don't work in an industry :v:

The plastic mirror is basically a tub full of 600 servomotors that we waterproofed, hidden under black water.
When you stand in front of it a kinect 3d camera sees your silhouette, and turns it into a 600-pixel black and white image.
Every servo motor is a pixel and has two positions, up or down. If the corresponding pixel is black (not part of your silhouette) the motor is down, if it's white the motor rotates to up.
A piece of ocean plastic is tied to every motor, and will float up when the servo's position is up.

on the inside it's just six hundred servo cables plugged into a whole bunch of servo control boards chained together, controlled by an arduino.

I have a bunch more of our work here: http://front404.com/ :sun:

I found my old jr high book I drew in:

I drew a lot of video game stuff. Whatever happened to Bonk?

Here's when I moved onto Disney characters. Look how lovely my line work is. It's all shaky and wavy. Back then, I thought tracing was cheating; so I would look at a character and try to recreate it without "cheating"... Dumb kid. Now I trace other peoples' art to get down muscle memory before I try doing their style. If you look close you can see all of my eraser marks.

Here's the last pencil drawing I did in that notebook before my parents took notice and bought me real art supplies. I finally moved on to paper without lines!

My dad left behind some sketchbooks that are, front to back, nothing but soft pencil and charcoal drawings of naked ladies, boobs, vaginas, and sex acts.

He's a horny old man, it's kind of ridiculous really. he has a lot of talent and he just uses it to draw porn. its a shame. i need to get those back to him, they're rotting in my closet
