joat mon posted:Reagan wasn't a boomer. The boomers were between 15 and 35 at the beginning of the 80s. There were no boomers in the senate and less than 20 in the house. Hardly the generation in power, that was the greatest/depression generation. Joat mon, it has become the Wise American Way, as deemed by today’s boomers, to blame everyone 35 or younger for all the nation’s problems. In light of this decision by America and its media, boomers did all the bad things on the 80s just as millennial are to blame for literally everything today.

My understanding is that generally the UCMJ finds that four stars and the president pretty much never do anything wrong. It’s more like cases with egregious UCI never make it to courts martial because the command and prosecutor would rather not get clowned in court.

Apparently a big part of why we get "Florida Man" stories is they require much more detail about local crimes to be reported/released than some other states. So there's probably people doing bugfuck weird things all over, but in Florida, they publish that stuff with a quickness and in greater detail.

Heat, stupid high humidity, lack of some progressive thinking. I've written off a handful of states that I'll never visit again, Louisiana isn't one of them, character is its' saving grace. On the plus side, Louisiana might maybe just maybe finally join the modern era with regard to their jury conviction rules in that 10 out of 12 jurors will no longer be enough to convict people. https://www.nola.com/crime/index.ssf/2018/05/non_unanimous_juries_louisiana.html I know some pretty high up activists/lawyers trying to get their jury rules rewritten, and they're being, uh, "careful" with how they pitch this to conservatives.

Greenwald mentions Matt Taibbi’s pretty reasonable point to boost the idea that not only should government not censor fascists, but private enterprise should also freely avail their signal-boosting platforms to fascists. If they don’t, the fascists win or something? https://twitter.com/ggreenwald/status/1026915237570793473?s=21

Taibbi’s much better point is that we’re already in a bad way of relying on a handful of social media giants to figure it out for us. Then Greenwald launches into “and thus don’t shut down fascists!”

D&D is where people can right-think pat each other on the back, where a few notable moron right wing people who love punishment show up regularly because they have a mockery fetish, fishmech does his thing, and a PRC propaganda machine accuses all Americans of being imperial rapist sexpats and champions the DPRK’s prison system as very good. (Some threads do have news links on the regular) C-SPAM has just as much if not more news links plus a bunch of hilarious bullshit and people trying to engage in Formal Debate Rules get laughed at or proved by IKs. C-SPAM is great.
