Wasn't it all but spelled out for us that Rudy's man (forgot his name, Tommy or something?) set fire to that place at the end of last week's episode?

What was the bouncer's original role before he started working for Vince? I'm hazy on what he originally did in season 1.

Big Mike was just a guy who hung out in the area getting high, he happened to be at the Hi-Hat on opening night when somebody pulled a gun. Vince hired him as muscle on the spot.

A bit confused as to why we went down that road with Frankie at all - were we really supposed to believe he'd go straight and settle down? I anticipated the dry cleaning store to gradually turn into a front of some kind, maybe even leading him into contact with a different crew of criminals, but instead we're already through with it.

Larry's turn into Master Thespian that can transfix the entire crew on Take Number One was maybe a little too much, too fast...but I'm enjoying his story and am eager to see where it goes.

I have absolutely nothing to back this up, but that felt kind of like one of those "based on a true story if you can believe it!" kind of sub-plots that David Simon will occasionally run with. Like it's something that really happened at that time and place and he had to include it because it's just too bizarre not to or something.

It was an amusing bit of farce, and it drove home the point that Frankie is rapidly running out of options. He's going to blow through the money he sold it for in a week and then he's going to be broke and more desperate than ever.

Larry's porn monologue was cheesy as hell  I do like how Larry and C.C. continue to be the Goofus and Gallant of pimps.

CC just invented gonzo porn though.

Also, Larry wasn't a master thespian (it clearly showed his acting was the most wooden you've ever seen), he just turned on his pimp-game on camera.

Also I found it kinda weird that Candy had someone basically throw herself at her going "please involve me in this project I can write", blowing her off saying she needed to do it herself, quickly concluding she is not, in fact, able to write, and then concluding she needed to involve an altogether different writer. Seemed a little harsh to not give the woman a shot first.

I dunno, I have a feeling he's just going to hold on to the pimp game for too long and everything will pass him by. Next season is supposed to be in the early '80's, isn't it? He might just still be working 1 or 2 girls and looking considerably less fancy.

Mainstream storytelling would have Lori leave him and then he ends up taking it out on the girl that left him and is doing the activism, but that feels a bit too obvious for Simon.

So... I hate to say this, because Maggie Gyllenhaal is a great actress, but Candy's whole schtick is starting to wear thin. Last season I felt like she was a struggling, developing, three-dimensional character. This season she feels like a one-note cutout. With so many great characters interacting with each other in new and interesting ways, she's really starting to seem shallow, and the premise they're running with right now isn't as interesting or profound as the showrunners seem to think it is.

After really getting into last week's episode, this week's felt a little slow -- it definitely suffered from being a "the season has picked up momentum and something's going to go down but we've got to build tension some more" episode. I have to say, though, that the way this show has handled the mob element is pretty genius. I keep expecting every scene involving the mobsters -- like the "are these all left shoes?" scene -- suddenly to turn violent, and I keep being surprised when they don't. This show has to have the most decent mobsters I can think of in a crime drama.

Cue next week's episode when Frankie gets killed after finally pushing things too far...

My friend keeps referring to Christina as "thicc Kate McKinnon" and now it's all I can think of when I see her. That being said, when she took her "grandma" coat is one of the few times I've ever uttered "drat, girl."

I also wonder if we're going to see the AIDS plot come not from Paul and his partner but instead from the closeted city worker and his wife.

Part of me wondered if it was Rudy himself doing it as a warning over Vincent wanting to get out but uhhh... unless there was MASSIVE miscommunication no way in hell would he be anywhere near Vincent when that goes down.

Also thought it was an interesting parallel to earlier in the episode where Vincent warned Abby about being extra alert with the company she keeps. He should start following his own advice.

Nobody, probably. I assume somebody's just trying to hit Rudy's organization in retaliation for the parlors and Vince is low enough on the totem pole to be fair game (where going after Rudy or Tommy would bring the full force of the family down in retaliation.)
