I've never played Theme Hospital so I'm kind of easing into this. I'm a bit confused about how training works. Not like, functionally, I get that, but like am I supposed to deliberately and drastically overstaff so I can rotate people in and out of training? Hell, how much should I be overstaffing in general to cover people on breaks?

I don't overstaff to cover breaks, but I do use disposable cheap people to fill in while I'm training people, then fire them once I have a decent roster.

So, in the second hospital I moved the psyciatry and now no-one can use the door regardless of where I move it, even completed unimpeded by anything. I also then tried to build another room, and it wouldn't let me build a door at all as it wasn't facing onto a corridor, depspite there just being one big open space that it led onto anyway. I'm enjoying it, but might wait until the 1st patch or two before I commit to a proper run.

Does hallway size actually make a difference for people movement? I've been making 2-wide hallways because it looks nice, but I can't help but feel like I'm wasting space.

I played this a bit yesterday but refunded after about 90 mins, because it REALLY just felt like Theme Hospital again, nothing in it felt particularly new. Is it worth going further into, or is it really a retread?

I mean it absolutely is that game, but it is not JUST that game. Mechanically it's much more drilled down to its core, with better balance, a smoother difficulty curve, a whole heap of QoL improvements in terms of interface and such, and the way the missions are structured gives you way more options to do what you want.

IDK, I'm not gonna say a lot of it is new, but it still feels like a big step forward to me.

I think it does make a difference because the models collide with each other so I have seen some mini-jams for a 10-30 seconds in my tighter hallways.

Yeah, three-wide hallways actually seems to be more efficient, if only to give you room for all the vending machines they seem to want now.

All the new design features seem to be very smartly-thought out. I especially like how you actually need a bunch of nurses now to run all sorts of different rooms rather than the pharmacy/ward/cast remover trifecta in TH. Also people are keeling over dead right and left in my hospitals from failed cures so those +10% bonuses to treatment are actually really valuable and are the prerequisitite to the +20% and +30% upgraded versions. Staffing is going to require a lot more thought than "how many surgeons do I need and do I have two psychologists okay I'm good" from TH.

Staff specialisation is pretty huge yeah. The boosts from skills are really meaty. Giving GPS a rank in the skill that boosts mood when they interact with patients helps a lot too. Ditto Ward nurses!

Bang! You're dead.
For areas of a hospital that aren't expected to have much traffic, or no patients coming through, I find I can get away with hallways a single tile wide. Though I do notice people have a tendency to bunch up at junctions as they run into each other.

For everything else 2 tiles is often enough and it still allows you to line the walls with benches and other amenities. I do find that, unlike in the original Theme Hospital, areas that I expect to be busy (clusters of GPs Offices, psychiatric rooms, popular clinics) it's often best to create smaller waiting areas where people can pool. Patients, for whatever reason, seem to like to jostle about and constantly get up and sit down so they need a lot of room to move about while still keeping a 'path' clear.

I haven't bought the game yet but this thread has soothed a load of fears I had pre-release that they were going to try and force a bunch of new systems in that wouldn't work but hearing that they basically just made Theme Hospital again but with a bunch of modern QoL improvements really makes me want it as soon as I have money.

The only real new stuff is tiered challenges for hospitals so you can come back later after gathering stuff from other levels to max it out and some online challenge stuff that’s entirely ignorable.

All the rest is just refinements to what was already there. Shits good

yeah. from watching streams and playing a few hours it is super important to hire good staff and stuff your rooms full of items, or else you end up with patients dying left and right

it does make a difference, pathfinding and traffic jams mandate 2 wide corridors at least. i'd go with 3 wide if you're going to be putting items on both sides of the hallway

Are the items generally just for decoration or does it matter what you put in each room? I.e. do coffee machines slow down energy drain from staff?

the items matter. you want to stuff your rooms full of poo poo to get prestige as high as possible - unlocking the bronze, silver, and gold certificates early helps for this. and putting coffee machines everywhere makes your doctors jittery messes who work real fast but have to pee all the time

You can hover over the item and it will tell you if it's for decoration or does something like provide energy.

They posted the news on the forums instead of the news section.

Got this game yesterday and managed to play just under an hour with no trouble. Now everytime I load it up it runs for about 5 mins then freezes up. The game is obviously still running because the audio is there and if I click about I can hear it happening, but the visuals are just frozen solid. While it is going it's running perfectly well, so I really don't know what might be up with it? Is anyone else having this issue?

I've been going for three stars on every level before moving on and just reached the University. Really hoping later levels are going to make 2 and 3 star interesting. So far I haven't really had to do anything actively.

Game wants me to learn how to train my staff? Definitely make 1 star require training a member of staff! But requiring me to train 10/20 staff for 2 and 3-stars doesn't even require me to buy the other plots of land, just takes a bit of time while the game runs in the background. Maybe I'm doing it wrong and I'm supposed to come back when I've unlocked everything, but that definitely hasn't been necessary so far.

Also I'm finding it rough to muster up the willpower to start a new level, knowing that I'm gonna be decorating 6 rooms for the n'th time before I even hit play, would love if we could get templates or something. All that said the game is extremely fun once you get going.

As far as I can tell because waiting is a radius around the doors, you want to cluster doors so a handful of benches (and thus a few snack machines etc) cover multiple rooms right?
