in octagonia and a lot of my people are starting to unlock dual wield. i'd have it with the luminary except i made a beeline straight for the "does more damage to metal enemies" one, lol.

i really like how many things there are to sort of break up the usual "explore new area for sparkly spots and treasures, fill out the bestiary, do a few quests."

the tickington stuff is my favorite whenever i find a new pastword, but zooming to the casino or re-working old gear on the fun size forge to get a gold star is also a good way to take a break from adventuring.

The crafting is epic. I'm in the post post post for real final post game now and I spent like 45 minutes crafting out +3 perfects of all the across the board best gear to get ready for the Timewyrm and it was awesome.

I've done that fight twice, and gotten the fight down to one enemy at yellow health but I need to tweak ths strategy again. Last night I beat the secret Harma trial (mad slow) and got a butt load of resilience seeds so that will probably help. Trying to decide if I should try to beat Harma faster for more seeds or just give the super boss another shot. Either way I have one fight left before platinuming the game. I found out yesterday that the game has different battle speeds lol.

That fight was what made me say gently caress it and turn off stronger monsters lol, which I maybe shouldn't have had on in the first place but I have a brain disease

Fun Suze Forge is insanely well done lol, maybe the best minigame ever beside sDFO’s goblin PIN entry 2FA.

protip for metal enemies, trial and error taught me that the "do more damage to metal enemies" skills were worthless compared to the skills that guarantee a critical hit if you connect. For metal slimes a skill that boosts your hit from 1 to 2 damage is nothing compared to a skill that does 100 damage half the time

Dual wield has honestly made it so that I kill most of them. When everyone gets two attacks, it sucks way less when you whiff with one of them.

turning the battle speed to ultra fast has also vastly improved my playing experience, I can't believe I didn't know it was there. if the levels they put new party members at is where they expect you to be I am vastly over-leveled, lol.

now that I have most of not all of the party I might go back through some areas to check for treasure, buy some weapons/armor I skipped, etc.

You using any draconian quest? I really think the "no exp from weak enemies" is mandatory for any exploratory Gamer. I think they balanced payouts for the story beeliners, because you otherwise overlevel at an insane pace.

I need to go back and do act 3.

I ended up being at the perfect level for the act 2 boss, and I got to say there's no better feeling than seeing a DQ boss finally go down while your last party members are completely out of MP

Its okay to be overlevelled in DQ imo, they're all balanced around you making the worst decisions possible and still being able to beat it. Also I don't think you can turn on the difficulty modifiers once the game's started.

sending enemies flying by galloping through them with your horse is one of DQXI's greatest pleasures, and doing so will also slow down overleveling while exploring the world

it feels to me like the curve is such that you sort of cap out anyway? like the three times i got new party members before jade and rab, they were way below me but basically caught up within 1-2 levels pretty fast.

i'm definitely at least a little over-leveled, but i don't feel like i'm swimming in money. i haven't really been buying anything besides some occasional materials for the forge, some casino tokens and a weapon here and there, so i guess i'll find out as i go back to some shops and try to fill out the equipment lists.

Being able to buy materials right from the forge screen was an amazing upgrade. I don't remember if that was in OG.

Highly recommend. The Tickington stuff is decent and there's tons of little adjustments that make the S version even better. I think legit the biggest game changer is being able to change people's outfits without them having to wear the actual gear.

Yeah when I first played I kind of forgot and let it all pile up and did it in the post game. It was uh not the best way to do it. I'm mad that the definitive editions never got the various different graphical styles for Tickington that the, uh, 3DS version I think got
