When they make an MMO that plays like Dark Souls we will have a hit.

I don't like how instanced MMOs are and a lack of a decent metagame.

All that is fine. The 300 pound gorilla in the room is the dogshit combat mechanics. As soon as I see hotkeys I don't bother. I cannot play a game that has me jamming the 1 key until kingdom come. Worse yet is setting up macros, etc. Blah. Elite was brought up and it's a cool immersive game but one of the most hostile when it comes to doing anything meaningful or interacting with other players.

PlanetSide 2 is a mechanically fun game that has nothing going for it in terms of metagame. The next fantasy MMO that will do well needs a simple but fun melee mechanic like the original dark souls with even the same leveling system but much slower to level. I think you'd find players accommodating to lag and latency if the reasons were sound, like being in an enormous battle or populated city.

For sure. Just make space, make interesting. Dragon's Dogmas map comes to mind that was expansive and not very 'level' like. That said, I do understand instancing in the case of dungeons or small, tightly packed areas. but it needs to be more of a ... Let's say, 50 - 100 people in the instance as opposed to 5 - 10.

It would be devoid of creativity or fun. A raptor would he equivalent to a rogue and be described as the dps dealer. Press one to do the talon attack. The good Dino's vs the bad Dino's idea would be scrapped. A cosmetic scar on your Dino's eye will cost 980 dino bux which translates into 9.99 but half off if you buy it in 2 hours.

Zaphod42 posted:Concept and implementation are two different things buddy. If you think there's no way to play as dinos and have fun, I would argue that YOU are devoid of creativity Name me a single MMO in recent history that could even capture this well. Also elite stinks because there are almost no way to meaningfully interact with other players. You can't even trade with each other. Send money. Nothing. Speaking of creative, your "checks note" thing is cute. It's the new *bursts into thread*. I would argue you're devoid of creativity.

I had a friend who basically handicapped his own lifetime milestone goals by way of WoW. Nothing like everyone coming back from college or having a real trade and his dumbass is the door guy at Best Buy because he has to raid four times a week. Last I checked he's just a drunk now.

Sandbox MMO w/ PvP will only be good if there of an equal amount of care given to the PvE content and an interesting world. Most important of all is fun core mechanics that aren't smashing hot keys. Really, get away from the hot keys and people would be down for almost anything.

So, I finally found a MMO without hotkey garbage called Gloria Victis on Steam. It has mixed reviews but the most recent are mostly positive. I think I'll take the plunge since its only 20 bux.

But the core gameplay loop is fun. The RvR feels like a real-time DaOC without magic. I'm having a lot of fun. I inadvertently picked the underdog faction and getting my poo poo smashed every castle or fight on the field kind of stinks. I'd recommend it for 20 bux. Goons have played worse.

Sangmar/Azeb empire is getting crushed. Every castle defense is like 50 howling Norsemen or Western European knights crashing through the gates. It's not even a population thing. The most dominant guild just stinks and gets steamrolled on the regs.

Herstory Begins Now posted:The entire gameplay experience is like the first month of an MMO over and over because each server wipes progress like once a week up to once a month. It's also full loot pvp with a ton of loaded player interaction and ~RP~.
