:siren: Festivities start at 7pm tonight!:siren:

Cynthia Nixon

LGBT and education activist that some may know from her previous acting career, she's spent the last 6 months campaiging thru NY state who supports marijuana legalization, single payer healthcare, fighting corporate interests (doesn't accept any of their money), and the rollback of the prison complex and abolishment of ICE. She's netted, despite Cuomo's attempts, the Working Family Party's and DSA local chapter endorsement.

Andrew Cuomo

A prick. A prick that's helped get gay marriage thru NY state, he's also responsible for a Republican majority in the NY legislature, Republican gerrymandering (so that things here don't go too left-ward), massive amounts of corruption thru the state, and the foiling of any other leftward policies that are badly needed.

Story So Far

So far this cycle, Cuomo has done everything but Tonya Harding Nixon to cut short her race, from threatening her potential allies, to overloading the screens with his commercials by hoovering up millions of oligarchy money, to trying to co-opt some of her positions that he will inevitably reverse once elected. And once he's elected for another term, whoo, we've seen nothing yet...

The NY slate for progressives looks bright this year, from AOC on, with Jumayne Williams and Zephyr Teachout having good shots at wiining Lieutenant Governor and Attorney General positions respectively.

But nothing really changes in NY state while ol' Cuomo is in power. Which is worrisome, as Nixon's campaign has had trouble gaining momentum in the face of Cuomo's advertising blitz, currently facing an almost 40 point deficit. This will be the only debate in this race and Cynthia Nixon's first political debate as a candidate.

Drinking game if you're looking to die:

quote:

Drink if...

-Nixon uses the phrase “Cynthia Effect.”

-someone you’re watching with asks if Nixon is related to former President Richard Nixon.

-Nixon accuses Cuomo of having a “bromance” with President Trump.

-there are any references to “Sex and the City.”

-Cuomo diverts questions about Joe Percoco, his former aide who was found guilty of bribery.

-Nixon explains what a “democratic socialist” is.

-Cuomo blames Republicans for not getting things done.

-Nixon says Cuomo is trying “to figure out how to talk like a progressive.”

-Cuomo says “I get things done.”

-the candidates spend more time criticizing Trump than debating each other.

-either candidate brings up the other’s relationship with Mayor Bill de Blasio.

-Nixon uses the phrase “Cuomo’s MTA.”

-Cuomo blames the subway’s problems on the lack of funding from the city.

-either candidate makes a comment about the room temperature.

-the candidates get asked if they think America is great.

And when all is said and done, remember to take public transportation home.

these moderators are conservative as gently caress what the hell “should homeless people have rights????”

It's the question that decides a lot of politics in NY state unfortunately. The streets shake with the screams of NIMBY parents angry at poor people being moved near them.

dem socialism isn't about making people poor, it's about making everyone have what they need to fulfil a happy life.

e: her answer opened up a lot of poo poo, and I'm ascribing that to weariness, surprise, and just inexperience. Cuomo jumped at that opening like a panther.
