You'll most often find people to fight at the high loot zones like military bases. Zombies are only dangerous when you don't have a gun. Melee is kinda janky at the moment.

The draw of the PVP is that death has consequences with lost loot. You can spend hours getting your guy outfitted the way you want only to lose it all with one wrong move. This also makes murderizing someone that much more satisfying, where you get to enjoy the product of their efforts until someone does the same to you.

It's worth noting that right now the game is currently a big PvPvE sandbox. But what the devs envision is the game having a storyline, people working together (And against) to survive and eventually get off the island solving puzzles, quests, defeating enemies, and crafting all kinds of poo poo along the way. What we have right now is a platform to just do whatever. That will be changing.

I AM THE DARKNESS
I don't really like those separate deathmatch events. Events should be happening on the real map with your own gear, like one of the events in Arma 3 Wasteland where you can see vehicles full of money and hostile NPCs moving around the map so players can go there to try to loot it, and that always results in intense PvPvE firefights.

Nah. Opting in and out of intense PVP through a menu is cool and good. If you want a system where you have to hoof it to PVP you could, well, just play game.

Nah, it's cool to be able to just hop in and get some shooting done if your roaming the map isn't finding any targets. A couple times now we've ended goon groups with a game or two of T/DM and it's really fun to do that and not worry about our poo poo for next time.

Well, they can keep the separate events, but I think that "in-game" events would also be a fun way to add more PvP to the survival part.
Maybe that's kinda what they are trying to say with "Primary / Secondary Missions, Side Quests, End Game Content"?

You should try The Hunter: Call of the Wild then.

No pooping though, at least you pooping. Animal poop is part of the tracking system though.

What are the chances that they keep a stand alone sandbox mode after they finish with the storyline mode that no one will play?

Edit: I'm only asking because I'm really good at following these types of games only to see them fail spectacularly because of refusal to budge from their 'vision.'

Doesn't matter as I've already bought it. It's off to a great start as the server list refuses to populate, so I need a 3rd party website just to search for servers.

Been playing this with a few like-minded friends and we've had a blast so far. Probably have to tone down at some point and wait for a content update so we won't burn out at this point.

Yeah, the content beyond exploring is a bit sparse. They've been fiddling with the zombies, robots, and spawns a bit it looks like. Playing solo you would probably just hit the "what now?" phase after 10-20 hours unless you love PvP and just hunt people. Duos and beyond you can at least combine stashes and go into areas with some tactics to make it a lot more interesting.

Still absolutely love this game, but I'm really looking forward to more and more content. Be it more crafting (which they've been doing), quests, and more metabolism management (surprisingly a fun meta). I've got 30 hours in this with maybe 1/2 of it solo and I'm still logging in a few times a week, but not as often as I was.

My wishlist includes stuff like

- Gangs roaming with cars Mad Max style, one person drives, others shoot etc
- More specialized roles for players - content where you actually would need someone to be a medic, a crafter/engineer, hacker : so that everyone can't do everything
- Focus on survival and more advanced medical skills
- Combat which doesn't actually turn into snipe wars from the distance

And lots more, this just from the top of my head.

This. They're planning on making this a single player thing too, so hopefully they won't do stupid specialization stuff.

Its not even that great for multiplayer. "Guys, bob isn't up to play tonight, so we won't have our [specialist]. Gonna be tricky"

TeaJay

Well of course there can be lots of content which is fine for solo. But I'd like in a RP/survival sense that if someone wants to play a medical oriented character, there'd be a use for one. Maybe medical aid could just be more effective if given with higher skill in medicine.

Philthy

They kind of already have that in place already. To craft certain things, you need more than basic skillset for it. Like to make ammo for your rifle, you'll need I think whatever it is beyond basic training in it, so at the start you can allocate that much and be able to make rifle ammo out the gate, but if you don't you'll need to grind that skill some other way. If you want to be medical oriented, you'd probably put more skills into that at the start and be able to craft some better healing kits and such, but at the cost of something else. Everyone can be skilled in everything, but just not at the start. If Bob doesn't show up to play one night, you might consider training up that skill set a bit more because gently caress Bob for having a life outside of SCUM.

It was a response to a few posts above of a dudes wish list.

Though, I believe a while back the devs did hint at that they wanted roles, and to get off the island you would need someone (In your group or whoever) good with lockpicking and hacking or something.

Have anyone noticed a big effect with the nutrition stuff?

Have been playing this with my brother-in-law, and we have sort of made a competition out of eating unhealthy. Chugging down bottles of oil and vinegar, eating a whole pack of spicemix, eating 1.5 kg of human fat, those sort of things.

Currently my sodium level is at well over 1000%, and my saturated fats is above 2800%, and climbing. Eaten and burned off some 18k calories I think, can't quite remember, but it's a lot.

Finally, what do the phases mean with regards to injuries and illness? I ate a whole pack of painkillers (ingame) and I have been sitting on overdose phase 0 for a long time now. Eating a whole pack of activated charcoal just gave me diarrhea.

Trying to eat myself to death:
