I just looked out my window and saw a motherfucking running, driving, registered Tatra 700. One of 75 ever built, apparently. In other news, I was invited to a Facebook group for ex-employees of my ex-ex-company. Joined, figured what the hell. Apparently they've had a minor round of layoffs and a bunch of the lifers got canned and are now lamenting in the group. I had a good time at this company, but the amount of inane reminiscing, complete with crap grammar and can't-even-capitalize-their-own-names-correctly sadsack posting... like this one dude who in his mid-40s and has been with this company for eighteen loving years. I guess there's an obvious element of self-selection in that, of course, the least adventurous ones end up staying behind but jeeeez... so happy to be out of there. I've learned more in the last two years at my current gig than I did in six at that place.

Not sure why but I like my personal/social life being 100% separate from work.

I've been at the same company, in the same departement, in the same position, for 15 years. Hasn't really got anything to do with being or not being "adventurous", I just don't feel the need. So apparently only one out of the 20-30 shops in the area around me will actually still turn brake rotors, and they want $50/ea + labour + tax. Replacement rotors for the Versa are $57/ea + tax. RIP brake lathes. Fermented Tinal fucked around with this message at 15:04 on Sep 29, 2018 |

I'm actually gonna miss the Versa when it's gone. It's been a fun car to flog.

RIP. I'm not sure what to do now. I'm down to the Saabaru, which is practical but I don't get any joy out of driving. In the Saabaru I feel like I'm confined in a cave, pushing around a heavy machine; in the Miata I felt like I was flying like a wind-up mechanical bird. I can host two cars in my current living situation but I'm not sure if I'm going to move in the future. I'm looking at new jobs and don't know if I'm going to drive or bike to my next one. There will probably still be driving in my future back and forth between my kid's mom's house. I'd like to get this as a replacement but I'm not sure it makes sense to do so right now: https://seattle.craigslist.org/see/cto/d/2010-mazda-mx-5-miata/6704553450.html It does seem well-priced NC2 spec'ed the way I want it (Bilstein/LSD/etc), already has a hitch for my bike rack, etc - basically the best NC option I've seen, and it's close to me. I could disable the passenger airbag and put my kid up front while he's still rear-facing (another 2-3 years). Jury's still out how safe it'd be once he's forward facing/in a booster, I need to do more research. If he'd be safe enough, I could renounce women altogether, sell the Saabaru and make the NC2 my only vehicle, practicality be damned.

The Levorg especially - it'll be 5000kms short. I'm doing all my services based on time now and even then the Forester only would be once a year and it'll be STILL short on kms. One the WRX's gets so few kms that it's km service interval woud be every 10 years.

I only got mine done today as part of the head replacement lol. Granted it was right at the 3k mark, but that's 10 months on conventional which is probably not ideal. Still, I checked the other night when the spark plug blew out and the oil was still kissing the upper line on the dipstick, so at least i've got effectively zero burning/leaking going on. E: I do have to take it back for a code that popped up as I was driving home from the shop, P0153 which suggests an air leak given the manifold had to come off.
