NBC's reporting of the Rosenstein story is a liiiiiiittle different from the NYT's.quote:WASHINGTON — Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was joking when he discussed wearing a wire to secretly record President Donald Trump and does not believe Trump should be removed from office through the use of procedures outlined in the Constitution's 25th Amendment, according to Justice Department officials who requested anonymity to discuss the conversation.

Front page of Drudge says Ronan Farrow is about to drop a Kavanaugh story in the New Yorker, and not about Ford.

Omerta posted:Any reason why? I imagine that a prosecutor would be inclined to structure things to verify the potential victim’s statement and could actually set up her questioning to provide a coherent narrative, in contrast to the barrel of poo poo the committee would spill over everything. I would guess people are telling Maggie that because Ford is coming across as an extremely intelligent but more importantly sympathetic and vulnerable witness.

The Judiciary Committee votes this morning, but even if Flake defects and votes no McConnell can still bring a floor vote because senate rules are weird. Tomorrow they’ll vote and because it won’t be unanimous the actual no-poo poo real deal vote will be Monday or Tuesday.

The first vote is the 21 members of the Judiciary Committee, the ones who have been hearing Ford and Kavanaugh’s testimony. They’re supposed to act as a gatekeeper, but because senate rules are steeped in weird procedures, the Senate Leader can still bring a floor vote on Kavanaugh even if the Judiciary Committee votes not to go forward. It doesn’t make any sense.

It's hard to say how much calling for an FBI investigation matters. Flake, Manchin, and Murkowski are all in favor an investigation. Does that mean they are so in favor of one that they would vote No if the vote was brought up without an investigation? Hard to say. That's probably what ol' Turtledick is trying to figure out right now.
