That's a smart solution. Archiving/disabling characters is much better than quote:No characters will be automatically deleted during the merge. However, once the merge is complete, if you have more characters than available character slots, you will need to delete characters until you have enough available slots before you can play on that server.

If you're into MMOs, you'd enjoy Kingdoms of Amalur. The combat system was pretty loving decent from memory, you can basically build a spec that works for you around the types of weapons you like (Chakrams + Giant Warmace)
