The spent shell for the 5" is cool. Confusingly, larger guns are listed as bore diameter (5") and then the length of the gun expressed in numbers of bore diameters (/38) - so 38 caliber has nothing to do with the shell or the casing. It's just that it was ammunition from a 5"/38 gun - in other words a 5" gun with a barrel length of 190" - versus other US guns that included the 5"/51 (225") and the 5"/25 (125").
