Old Town Road to EGOT

Beyond the Black Rainbow is one of my favorite movies of the decade and Nic Cage is one of my all-time favorite actors, so naturally I've been looking forward to this for a long time. I didn't even think I was gonna get to see this in theaters until recently when I found out one of the indie theaters in town is showing it 3x a day starting tomorrow :swoon:

I'm gonna be busy this weekend so I don't know if I'll get to see it until maybe Monday, but I can't loving wait. From everything I've been hearing/seeing, this movie's 1,000% my poo poo and will easily be one of my favorites of the year.

Saw this in a theater earlier this afternoon. It's been several hours since I got out of seeing it and I'm still trying to process a lot of it. I've gotta sit on it for a little while longer before I watch it again (which I'm inevitably going to). I'm pretty sure I loved it, but I'm still trying to decide just how much.

Nic Cage's performance was wild and unhinged, but he's more of a silent protagonist than some kind of quip machine, not that I would've expected anything like that from Panos Cosmatos anyway.

And I loving loved this:

They certainly nailed the on-screen depiction of a horrific acid trip. I loved the gorgeous lighting and the various visual effects on hallucinations, especially Mandy and Jeremiah's faces bleeding into each other
As soon as I noticed it, my face lit up with glee.

I was loving glued to the screen for the entire runtime. Just completely enraptured by everything that was unfolding in front of me.

e: Oh god, I just remembered Cheddar Goblin and now I can't stop laughing

Just so we’re clear - the fluid that gets dropped in Mandy’s eye is LSD right?
It made her bleed from her eye though, didn't it? I didn't think LSD would do that.

Although I'm sure the jar Red drinks from is LSD.

I loving DIED when the guy pulled out the chainsaw.
Yeah same. Red gets a chainsaw and looks like this badass killing machine, then he gets totally dwarfed by the guy with the even bigger chainsaw. I laughed my rear end off. What a great moment :allears:

I just finished watching it a second time, and yep, it's still incredible. I really hope there's some kind of making-of feature on the Blu-Ray. I need to know how Panos lit/colored some of these shots.

I found this in the IMDB trivia, but I wonder if there's more to it than just this:

Also saw this, which totally adds up and made me

You get a Linus Roache full frontal for a minute or so.
This and animated boobs/bush a few times, though I'd imagine the former would affect a sexual abuse survivor much more.

If you have the opportunity to see this in a theater, do not hesitate.

The theater where I saw this didn't show the Q&A but I found it on YouTube in case anyone's interested:

Nicolas Cage, Panos Cosmatos, Linus Roach, and Kevin Smith.

Nic Cage knew he wanted to do Mandy after Panos Cosmatos told him a story about when he was a kid he enjoyed watching action figures' faces melt, hahahaha holy poo poo

e: There's also this one with Elijah Wood and a few other producers of the movie with Nic Cage and loving Vince Neil of Motley Crue joining later on:
