PIZZA.BAT posted:hey cool this thread is still around Yeah this is one of the best videos. It's so good. The digits of pi? WHAT?? PIZZA.BAT posted:man i really wish i'd had good math teachers in college Creating visualizations like this was a lot more difficult in past eras. Animation tools, mathematics modelling, even being able to create and edit high-definition video and then freely upload it to the internet, all of this is so much easier now than it was even ten years ago. Also, Grant Sanderson was a tiny child back then.

Oneiros posted:i had heard about using controller input in combination with some other glitches to achieve arbitrary code execution in oot but i had no idea someone had taken it this far I actually had kind of an issue with this video because it doesn't draw a very clear distinction between what content was buried/unused in the OoT cartridge until they unearthed it and presented it, and what content was just stuff they programmed into the N64 by inputting a ton of data using ACE, as basically a demoscene thing. The beta Kokiri is actually real, but the low-resolution version of Breath Of The Wild with full speech isn't, so somewhere in the middle of the TAS they crossed the boundary from reality to pure fiction, and it's all very impressive, but, is the Triforce cutscene actually in the ROM, or did they just faithfully recreate it, or what?

echinopsis posted:honestly those videos of 3blue1brown are a masterclass on communicating and teaching, and a powerhouse combo of being able to give intuitive explanations of things while creating highly intuitive diagrams and animations He is a very good mathematics educator. The thing I sometimes wonder about is what the limitations are of his approach. He usually stays in an applied mathematics kind of area where it's possible to build reasonably compelling visualizations, and he likes doing detailed videos about interesting results and topics where there's a lot of rewarding detail to go into. But there are huge areas of mathematics which are much more abstract and difficult to bring to life in that way. Number theory, for example. Anyway he's also cool (timestamped link): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHXO86wKeDY&t=2818s 69^2 = 4761, 69^3 = 328509

There is a lot to dunk on there, depending on your specialism. I'm a fan of the mathematics curriculum's smash cut from Archimedes' Quadrature of the Parabola to General Relativity.
