I like this dork's videos, it's all ridiculously overcomplicated solutions for made up problems that didn't need solving, usually involving lots of engineering, EE, and programming.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gu_1S77XkiM

I missed this video from a month ago but this one is building a robot to solve a giant jigsaw puzzle automatically.

Interestingly nobody seemed to pick up (hehe), and he doesn't mention, that this looks and works like a giant pick and place machine. So most of this has been worked out already before (picking up components with a sunction cup, cameras to identify the parts, feed mechanism etc). I think the biggest challenge would be actually computing solving the 5000 piece in a reasonable amount of time. It's over a month alter so it's clearly taking a while :v:

Uzbekistan is really fascinating from that (and many other) aspects, so definitely visit if you have a chance. That channel also has some other cooking videos, check out the pilaf one for example. Now that's a bigass wok.

I know Veritasium is hardly unknown and this the bowling video is pretty old but just holy poo poo at the machine they use to oil the lanes. I had no idea they oiled them at all, let alone that a giant rolling inkjet printer is used to do it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFPJf-wKTd0 (around 10 minutes in)

Destin has new video about the irrigation pivots, the things responsible for those green circles you see from the air: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7j1lMs7fcIQ

Pretty cool. I like how mechanical the control of each section is. I'd probably come up with some overcomplicated monstrosity that measured the wheel rotations and adjusted for the distance from the pivot etc.

Haven't watched EEVblog in a while. Other than the voice the only objectionable thing about his video is the occasional casual racism which is definitely problematic, though I don't think it's like a nazi thing as much as like australian boomer thing.

I used to like his repair and dumpster diving videos, there aren't many of those since covid it seems, but there's a pretty fun one where his solar analytics module blew up in a pretty spectacular fashion. Unfortunately he doesn't try to repair it.

Jim Silly-Balls posted:

In the video they specifically state that the crops grow without the irrigators, but running the irrigators significantly increases their yields per acre, to the point that the irrigator pays itself off in a few years
Oh thanks, makes sense. Might've skipped over or just zoned out when they talked about it.
