to get my CS degree my school made me take both mechanical and electromagnetic physics courses. glad i did. in the end, you're probably going to be surprised that stuff like hydro, coal, and nuclear power all generate it the same way. hydro takes the movement of water to rotate a turbine, coal and nuclear both just generate steam to rotate a turbine. there's nothing magical about it, really. it's all very physical, actually.

i had a professor in college that had like 8 different books published and near his office the hallway there was a glass case with them on display and they were all related to screws and fasteners. seemed like a cool gig.

i wish i had the book name handy, ill try to get it from my old man, but he has this book that's just about increasing precision through screws. how to make a basic screw, and what you need to do to use the previous screw to keep increasing precision. its basically a book about screw theory (heh), but also basically what you would do if you were on a deserted island and you wanted to get precision from scratch. also, one thing that blew my mind is how things like surface plates can be made without super precise tooling. just 3 semi-flat surfaces and you can get something almost perfectly flat by rubbing them together. poo poo rules
