Please don't post videos from literal nazi Jordon Peterson.

Edit: I assume this is the same one where he implies that Hitler was just obsessed with cleanliness and that just somehow accidentally morphed into killing people because he got carried away with it ("Zyklon B was just an insecticide :smug:") but I'm not going to watch to find out.

Also lol at all the comments being like "wow Jordon Peterson is so prescient!"

Imagine rush hour when 9 million people are trying to commute in one linear space with one train line.

The only thing I could readily find ridership data on individual lines for was the tokyo subway lines but apparently the lines with the highest daily ridership are around 500,000 people per day.

Perhaps the other 8.5 million people will all try to commute by walking/biking at the same time.

I mean I think they've kind of changed the way they approach dialog from having everyone sort of yell all the time to just assuming that either you're in a theater or watching a tv with the volume extremely high, you have subtitles on, or you're wearing earphones

I don't see this as particularly problematic unless you want to have tenet on in the background while you cook dinner or something

I'll be contrarian and say that while the syllabus would not prepare you AT ALL for most jobs (and certainly not YOSPOS jobs lol), it'd be pretty good as a pre-seminary school or pre-law or getting into a philosophy phd program. It's vaguely like a liberal arts degree in classics with other stuff thrown in; https://classics.dartmouth.edu/menufeature/curriculum/classical-studies-courses

some of those freshman texts, like Plato's Apology and Republic, are heavy-duty reading for 18-year-olds. in general the world would probably be a better place if people go through their lives even reading 1/10 of the texts listed just for development of critical thinking skills. Locke's second treatise on civil government more or less underpinned the prime ideas in the US declaration of independence, but people have largely forgotten about it these days
If reading ~the great works~ actually even remotely taught critical thinking, christian fundamentalists wouldn't actually want to teach them

Compare that to normal introductory philosophy classes, which are literally 100% just critical thinking

this is not me uncharitably paraphrasing. this is what she's actually doing.
It's because that's the laziest/easiest possible way to make a video, like all those movie critique channels where the "critique" is effectively just summarizing stuff that happens in the movie

it definitely seems like people on youtube tend to attribute things to "the algorithm" when it might just be user behavior, although I guess it's never clear

For example, I've seen a lot of people complaining that they are getting less views relative to how many subscribers they have and must be getting buried by the algorithm for creating content it doesn't like, and maybe that does happen I don't know, but since it seems like if you don't actually watch videos from a given channel that you're subscribed to for a while, youtube will stop showing that channels' videos as often, so in some cases it might also be possible that they have accumulated a lot of subscribers who lost interest in their videos but didn't actually unsubscribe, but I guess nobody wants to believe that

For a second I was going to say "that 100% looks like something that could actually have been from the late 90s" but I realized that even though he has done an amazing job capturing the look, in reality, in terms of editing, random youtube videos in 2023 just completely blow away what would have been possible in professionally produced educational videos from the 90s to a ridiculous degree (like there's no way it would have been practical to do the very smooth zooming/scrolling/having new text appear in a video like this in the 90s and a real informational video from the 90s would have tons of pauses that wouldn't get edited out)

He may be running it through a vhs tape but there's a huge difference between taking a complete high resolution digitally edited video and just passing it through a vhs tape to get the look and actually recording the video on some type of SD quality tape format and then editing it.
