Don't you tell me my business again.
This one got me. The old "eat the animal" bit. Sorry for the lovely quality.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N56DU4gKjMA

Obviously it's a deflatable puppet and I guess he palms it when he pretends to eat it.

Right? Guinea pig looks pretty real.

EDIT: Wait, he trap doors the real animal and has a cotton candy one behind the box. Still a cool trick

And regarding Richard Turner, it HAS to be a stripper deck doesn't it? Except someone's going to post footage of him doing his thing with a random deck from a Walgreens and I'll eat poo poo. I'd really like to see him do that with a shuffled brand new deck that I gave him. And I bet he would. I just can't for the life of me figure it out adding on the fact that the dude can't even see the cards.

Ah! He's faking his blindness!

I've always wondered if Richard Turner marked his cards himself using some kind of indentation along the sides of them. He frequently talks about how fine his perception his with his fingers, so it seems plausible. But would that account for his need to ask if the cards are all face-down? I don't know; I find the man to be FASCINATING.

Agreed.

I HAVE to think he's nicking the cards somehow though because he's not pulling some Daredevil Matt Murdock poo poo where he can feel raised ink, black smells different than red and face cards are warmer to the touch. And he's not Rain Man. Asking if the cards are face down could just be part of the act. When you watch him shuffle and cut sometimes, it looks an awful lot like how you work a stripper deck and you can also notice him feeling and rubbing the sides of the cards.

He literally says he goes by feel so that's not some huge revelation.

Right, but I mean what's he "feeling" if the idea is that every card is cut the same and presumably has identical clean edges? Do we know that he can do what he does one were hand him a new deck or I gave him one from my desk drawer? I mean, what he does is astonishingly impressive either way; I'm just arguing that the cards almost have to be modified.

Iirc they are his decks and he has tiny nicks on the side of each card

That would check out. Still amazing.

Also, thanks to finding this thread I started going down a Youtube rabbit hole and gently caress me with Shin Lim, man. I know he uses the magic black pad a lot and understand some of how that works and also a little bit about some of the moves he does but Jesus Christ I still don't get even half of it. So much of it is How in the loving World? levels of brain melting.

I mean, obviously it's trick decks left and right and that absolute black pad he uses but I still can't make it add up.

That's the greatest thing to me about the art. Knowing what to look for and understanding traditional methods but motherfuckers still blowing my mind. I KNOW there's nothing supernatural and that dudes work with plants, partners and props but Lim, to me, is next level good.
