I wanna sing one for the cars
That are right now headed silent down the highway
And it's dark and there is nobody driving And something has got to give

I assume every audience volunteer in magic is a plant, TBH. The main thing I've gleaned about magic from Penn and Teller's books is "get a plant if possible, and bribe bystanders heavily if not."

On that topic, I recall one trick that seemed... not entirely thought through.

The magician was on the big screen, an audience member was picked and answered questions, and the magician on screen successfully guessed what was chosen.

Then the audience member took off his sunglasses and rubber mask, revealing himself to have been the magician all along.

Was this on Fool Us? I remember a trick from that involving a rubber-mask reveal, mostly because my thought was "you dipshit, you just spoiled your own trick."

For the record, to clarify my previous post, since I think it came off a little harsh: I don't have a problem with magicians using audience plants, although it's a little lame if the trick is just "guess what this coached audience member will say." I think it's pretty interesting how the art of illusion is a mix of skill, technical innovation, and brute-force solutions like plants -- all kinds of elements working in concert to pull off a trick. Sometimes simple brute force is just fine!
