Sally Struthers gorging herself in Ethiopia while filming PSAs was probably as on the nose as the show should have gotten.

To be fair, South Park becoming more of a social critic show is likely what keeps it still good, rather than falling into the same rut that long running series like The Simpsons and Family Guy do.

Indeed, South Park always changing and being different is what keeps it going. The first few seasons of South Park are good and fun, but if they tried to keep the same style going, it would have been canned a long time ago.

We don't always like the directions they go with it, but the show is gonna go somewhere different all the time.

Yeah, but Jenner is a lovely person who killed an old woman (texting while driving, actually referenced in SP during that memberberries arc!) and is/was a MAGA chud. Just because she happens to be trans doesn't mean she also isn't an ugly person (in terms of personality, but represented in SP as literal physical ugliness.)

I don't think they need to represent anything. She is ugly as gently caress physically. It has nothing to do with the gender reassignment and everything to do her skin has the texture of a used towel from Goodwill layered atop a melting wax sculpture.

The fact she is also a completely terrible person for a slew of reasons makes that way more of a comedy target.

I mean look at the picture on the left. Jenner as a dude looked like a shifty meth addict with a lazy eye. Now she looks like a shifty meth addict that stole leather off a 40 year old couch for skin, and that's a publicity photo.

I'm not going to make fun of someone for being physically ugly (I'm not a supermodel myself) or transgender, or having had plastic surgery, or being deformed, etc. Jenner's pushing 70 so I don't expect her to look, I don't know, "youthful," but they certainly depicted her as a freak in SP and I'm maintaining that it's because of who she is, not what she looks like IRL.

What's always fascinated me, however, is if you've watched Family Guy over the past 10-15 years they made frequent references to Bruce Jenner being "a beautiful woman" and similar despite that being long before he/she came out (or whatever the term is.) Did they really know and I was in the dark all this time?

There's supposedly a lot of "in" jokes on Family Guy that only the Hollywood community gets. There was an infamous one that resulted in Jon Stewart furiously calling McFarlane and having a tantrum. Yet nobody outside of Hollywood connected the dots.

I know the exact clip you're talking about - that's the one where the cutaway shows Peter with his "horse leg" or whatever and he donkey-kicks Brian after he walks in the kitchen to which Peter replies something to the extent of, "Brian, you know not to come up behind me, you startled my horse leg" or whatever. I still don't know what the gently caress that's supposed to do with Stewart though. Very

That was before even they knew he'd lose-win the election. Of course they had to re-do the post-election episode in less than 24 hours because they'd [correctly] predicted Trumpski would lose. :sigh:

Short answer, Yes, but they already partially went back on it because they still had President Garrison show up from time to time.

Basically, like most of us, when Trump first announced his presidential run they said "oh, that's funny, that'll provide some good material for a while." Then they watched as he transformed the news cycle into something even they couldn't keep up with, and they were clearly pissed/demoralized about it by the time he won. Even at the pace they do things, they could think they'd nailed him down and by the time the episode aired he'd completely contradict it, because there's basically no rhyme or reason to anything he does.

The joke was subtle but apparently references comments Jon Stewart made on the air, on The Daily Show, about his staff “standing behind him” while going on the air despite the strike.

During the episode McStroke, a joke leads to a cutaway scene:

Stewie: Ugh, that’s the ugliest thing the fat man’s grown since that horse leg.

[Cut away to Peter looking in open refrigerator, one of his legs is a horse leg. Brian approaches from behind.]

Brian: Hey Peter, have you seen my…

[Peter's horse leg kicks Brian in the face]

Peter: Ah, Brian I’m sorry but what do I keep saying? Do not stand behind me… cause I will get scared.

This is a good point. Cartman's just irritating now and the show seems to lean too hard on using Randy and his antics for gags, which are hit or miss. Talking characters, I'm watching Unfulfilled again and I'm wishing we'd have gotten a couple more episodes out of the Amazon arc in place of the adventures of Overplayed Frat Bro and I DON'T NEED A MAN.

I don't know, I think the Catholic pedophile episode pretty bluntly called out the vatican, rather than having a clever message. That seems like it would have made a bigger splash a few years ago.

The casual nature of the school shootings through the season would also have been a bigger deal a few years ago, which was pretty much the message.

What else can they do to piss people off?

The Craig/Peru episode is great in how he blatantly points out how the show works. And how he refuses to take part. But now the M&T refuse to take part as well and the show barely ever works.

Also, even though there were 10 episodes. There were 8 stories this year. They did that in season 17, as well. That had a a 3 parter. This year there were two 2-parters.

So, hooray for 8 new South Parks. Maybe 10 episodes is too many and they will need to drop back to 7.

Probably the best of the last 4 seasons. So the needle is pointing up!

Road To Rhode Island, season 2. I never saw it "in the wild" myself, it was cut from all airings after 9/11 and even the DVDs. I think it appears on at least one compilation DVD though.

Seth apparently didn't fight the edit too hard because it wasn't really intended to be a 9/11 joke in the first place, but unwittingly became one. (Also, he may have been a little spooked at the time because he was supposed to be on one of those planes.)

The episode was fine until they dragged Tegridy Farms into it and then seemed to end with "Hey, everybody got high and is happy again". Is there something going on with :420: in Colorado now they were trying to draw off of other than ":420: has been legal there for a while now and we're going to make a Randy Marsh Adventure subplot about it"?

I look back at this season and am trying to think of the memorable episodes (in other words, ones I wouldn't mind seeing on a Wednesday marathon):
-Dead Kids. Meh
-A Boy and a Priest. Meh. Maxi had never been one to regurgitate bible verses like he was in that episode.
-The Problem With A Poo. The Simpsons payoff was the only thing worthwhile.
-Tegridy Farms. See above.
-The Scoots. Good, mmkay?
-Cereal two-parter. Meh, it had its moments.
-Buddha Box. This was the point where I'd pretty much had it with PC Principal/Strong Woman.
-Unfulfilled two-parter. Part 1 was good, part 2 was a little confused but still better than much of the above.
