I'm trying to dig up a game on steam and for the life of me I can't find it Here's what I can remember: Turn based, hex grid, bright colors almost mobile looking, maaaaybe elemental factions (can't remember specifics), Asian devs (but I don't know which country or language). I can't remember if it is or was in EA, and I don't know the exact release date but I want to say within the last year or two. Not a lot to go on, I've been scouring steam and I can't find it again

Nope I went down the rabbit hole last night and couldn't find it. I did at least find a bunch of other random cool poo poo I'd never seen before

Jintozook81 posted:Legion War looks pretty good. It's not But I wanted it to be, which is why I was trying to dig it up. There's a free demo at least. The winners from steam sale weren't really strategy games (Steamworld Quest, Outward, fun card based rpg in the Steamworld universe and eurojank rpg not made in euroland respectively) For the stuff that was strategy adjacent: Trials of Fire looks promising, though I'm not sure I like how action points are handled. Cards of Ash, DungeonTop, Wildermyth, and Legends of Callasia (same dev as last regiment I think) are ok For truly what the gently caress, check out Castle Battles and It Stared Back (not good games but what the gently caress is even going on with ISB) I didn't check The Last Hex but it looked interesting The only actual strategy games I've played recently are Age of Wonders Planetfall and Crying Suns and I'm not even sure the latter qualifies.

Anno posted:Listening to some of the press out there today, and a developer mentioned that there are still half a million people playing CoH games monthly. Which is...more than I expected by a lot. This doesn't surprise me quite as much as it should, what with the rts genre largely abandoned, and an entire underserved market of historical fans who sure as gently caress aren't going to move to mobas Does this mean I get a new Rise of Legends?

skaianDestiny posted:Age of Darkness ATM is basically the survival mode of They Are Billions but better, and I'm all for it. I hope it sticks the landing because for whatever reason, I *really* dig the concept (same with The Last Spell) For some reason magical end of days speaks to me, but zombie apocalypse does nothing, even though it's just a different color of paint

Love Stole the Day posted:FYI we never talk about this game itt but Northgard is crazy underrated. 6 years old, and they're still putting out regular updates, DLC packs, improving the environment art, improving the UI, and adding quality of life features for multiplayer. Reviews on this (especially dlcs) were rather confusing, seemed to be a lot of angry pvp players though (but I repeat myself), so I ignored those and I'll give it a shot victrix fucked around with this message at 15:26 on Mar 8, 2024 |

Northgard was a pro suggestion, thank you I haven't even touched the campaign and the skirmish and conquest modes are rad I have no idea what this game was like on launch, but it's a pretty distinct thing all it's own now, borrowing from a ton of sources There's roguelike elements, settlers, German board games, RTS stuff, all kinds of things, all presented charmingly and easy to play The engine/performance is a bit jank, I'll get random slow downs, but nothing too bad - I do wish I could scale up the ui more than 2x at 4k, but it's playable Won my first few skirmishes, lost a conquest, and I'm struggling and uncertain if I'll win my current skirmish after getting my teeth kicked in repeatedly before beating my aggressor, good times

Age of Darkness This one has been on my wait-for-final list for a very long time now (it launched in EA in 2021, yeesh) https://store.steampowered.com/app/1426450/Age_of_Darkness_Final_Stand/ It apparently just released the final campaign chapter in January, anyone played it? Good, bad? I find this extremely specific setting (final stand in a doomed world) oddly appealing, so They Are Billions, this, and The Last Spell all caught my attention

it seems to have no following, no one answered here, I went looking on yt, all reviews are 1-2 years old, I couldn't find anything recent discussing its strengths or weaknesses

Turin is running a Dune Spice Wars tournament with 16 players, 4 pods of 4 FFA games https://www.youtube.com/live/2Ta07-sn2sY?si=AHLnpEv0G-ao2hJN Lot of the same DNA as Northgard, but more diplomatic and Dune specific fuckery for multiplayer shenanigans

I dunno if any one is digging into Dune but the mp community over on Turin's discord is playing 4p ffa matches all throughout the day - the vibes are pretty chill given the politicking inherent in both the game and 4p ffa. They play on 1.5x speed with no other weird house rules. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1kB3gAyxp0 Tipz
