Siets posted:So I'm trying to understand the X games and their mechanism of travel and exploration. Sounds like X1-X3 used jump gates that took you to big system bubbles (not unlike EVE Online) that took some time to fly around and explore in. Then in X: Rebirth, they did some weird highway thing instead of the gates? What is the functional difference here? If this one takes after Rebirth then sorta. X1-3 had just space bubbles with pretty backgrounds and gates, Rebirth still technically had the space bubbles but instead of there being a gate in every sector you had a highway system that you could use to visibly move around the system to different hubs, like outer planets, asteroid belts, upper atmosphere of a capital world, things like that, and I think technically you could fly around without the highways but it took a stupidly long time and wouldn't always load places correctly. Then you could take one of the actual jump gates to a different system that did the same thing with different locations. So systems for sure felt larger and more alive in Rebirth, but were functionally much the same as they had been for the last three games. e:fb

who knew that what X really needed as a series was giant axial laser cannons Also I loving love that Terran ships apparently have sails now

It's a big solar sail for energy generation is my bet I mean it's actually just a giant aesthetically pleasing sail for fashion alone but that's not what the terrans tell people

OwlFancier posted:The tram line running on the inside is nice too. You see the same class of vessel without any sail deployed so I'm gonna guess it's either something you install or can toggle on and off. There's mention of *two* terran factions being added in this dlc so I'm thinking maybe things weren't so hunky dory for them after all maybe That or they're reintroducing Aldrin

I could have sworn Rebirth was like a century or so post AP, not just a couple decades. Did X4 retcon that? If so that make the Torus getting rebuilt pretty fuckin quick lolTravic posted:And they are probably still pretty piiiiiiiiiiiiiiised. OwlFancier posted:That might be a different ship, in X3 the terrans had the Toyko, which was their carrier, and the... other ship that was their large transport and looked almost identical that I forget the name of. And that's the general design of the ship in question. The big patreon logo. Nah it's def the same boat, same launchbay design, same hollow ring command deck, and same escorts as the earlier shot. The ship you're thinking of, while yeah very similar to the Tokyo, didn't have launchbays of any type. Side note, really digging that the Terrans seem to have downscaled the Kyoto as their new... I guess those are M2s?

OwlFancier posted:Also why did the torus have a "lol decouple all the parts lol" button? To prevent it from tearing itself apart and all falling on earth, ending all life in a giant fiery catastrophe. As it stands it only ended a Lot of life in a giant fiery catastrophe, because of this decoupling protocol. Only the sections that were destroyed and the sections immediately around those ended up being caught in a decaying orbit, all the other sections were able to be jettisoned into stable orbits. Yeah TC and AP had this weird thing where the Terrans were the designated villains but, uh... well that doesn't actually hold up to any scrutiny. You don't react to an attempt to sabotage your murder AI research with the mass murder of millions and massive damage to a planet's biosphere. Actual game question and not DEEP LORE, does X4 have any plots to speak of? I'm probably gonna hold off on installing until the new patch since so much is changing, but I noticed I never see anyone discussing plots of any type. Gonna be sad if there's no PHQ or something to chase. Psycho Landlord fucked around with this message at 15:55 on Mar 3, 2021 |

Like you can't got "THE TORUS WAS A LONE WOLF" and then capitalize on what she did by proving the Terrans right and somehow expect to still be the good guy lol

My favorite part of whatever the gently caress this is is it somehow started from "man everyone in X is dicks but the Argon especially so kinda weird that AP didn't acknowledge that" and now we're at moral relativism RE foreign state interference vs biome killing your homeworld via terrorism Anyway bring back the Hub Egosoft, I wish to connect to Kingdom's End

That's lame, one of the only things I liked about Rebirth was the sector setup outside of those two starter areas. At least they kept the badass new Xenon aesthetic.
