KiritoKazuto's Mom showed up a bit in Fairy Dance where, even though he's been living with them all his life, he still figured out he's adopted because... he found the documents on the internet/something about not looking exactly like either of them? I think they changed the reason between the novels and the anime, but Midori told Sugu that Kazuto was her cousin during the SAO situation due to the very real risk of him potentially dying. They were gonna tell Sugu the truth once she started high school anyway.

I'm actually glad Kirito and Eugeo's students came back, if only so they can be more than one-off plot devices.
