I generally like WTYP but it's not much different than most other media that I consume in that I know there's sometimes gulfs between my opinions and beliefs and those of the people doing the thing and there's really no reasonable way for me to bridge that as an audience member so sometimes I just gotta take breaks. It's at least not openly fascistic (lol most true crime podcasts), nor excessively stupid (lol mystery podcasts of any kind), but every now and then someone will say something like 'thankfully no one caught Covid at the live event we were Safe and Responsible with our live event at the bar' and immediately people have to start piping up that there absolutely was an outbreak at the live event. Or, yeah, one of the hosts will be having a bad day and, forgetting that they have a tiny little soapbox with disproportionate reach, start dropping 'KYS' on some rando. It's at least usually 'very online but relatively normal people fuckups' and not, say, having a military-themed podcast where you repeatedly go off on rambling diatribes about how communism is worse than nazism, or having a true crime podcast where you refer to all suspicious characters as 'perps'. Also I have yet to hear a WTYP caster go off on a tangent bitching about mask-wearing now that 'covid is over' or start dropping actual racial slurs as a 'joke' while talking about their career as a mall-cop, so even the bad moments probably haven't even hit, like, top twenty in 'content creator disappointments' for me. Oh, and at least so far as I know no credible accusations of sexual assault, which seems to be some kind of loving plague among people who talk for a living. WTYP being a 'shoot the poo poo' show does mean that it maybe isn't as cool or informative as it sometimes might be, but whatever, there's other sources for that. I loving draw porn for a living, seems like throwing stones in a glass house to complain about someone managing a decent income riffing on dumb bullshit with their friends. Capitalism is the problem there, not the horse viscera jokes. I also don't have a twitter account, so maybe I've just dodged the worst of it lol E: I should take care to point out that getting into Very Online fights and saying stupid poo poo about it is absolutely not good or agreeable and it's pretty loving reasonable to draw a line there, but I guess at this point I'm so used to everything being so insufferably stupid and intentionally malicious that content created by people at least half-heartedly trying not to be openly evil is good enough to get me through the workday. Many of them are very cool subject matter experts and I love to hear their perspective. Sometimes they're uhhhh yeah. WTYP has had a couple of rabidly anti-communist guests, which is about the worst that has gotten from them, I think; I don't see a problem with taking an anti-statist stance, but it seems like some of Liam's buds in particular are not really anti-state so much as propagandized to gently caress about the cold war. Granted, if that's your worst 'leftist firing circle' crime, it's definitely possible to do worse. It feels like Trashfuture and that whole orbit has it so much worse because they move in 'respectable journalism circles', so occasionally their guests aren't even notionally progressive, they're just assholes who move in professional circles of finance or politics, which it turns out is an incredibly difficult kind of person to listen to for light podcasting. Like, the worst part of Behind the Bastards was usually the guests. A lot of them were cool people and fun to listen to, but a whole bunch were also insufferably lib-brained to the point of derailing episodes and I eventually got tired of trying to discern which guests were going to start getting under my skin while also listening to a journalist describe Super Hitler 3. I don't think there's a single video in his channel that hasn't been covered better by the standard run-of-the-mill video essayist

Kind of funny how Tom Pain is a ML doing a show with Liam; which granted is how it should be because US Anarchists are the biggest weenies when it comes to MLs; seriously why litigate over Krondstat since it has no relevance in any future potential US revolution; the worst thing an ML can do to you is invite you to a reading group where they will call you an anarkiddie. My favorite episode is probably the El Faro, though wish Liam was on that one, WTYP is prime time stealing for my work; I like the Titanic series as well just from an informative level.

I feel like if you're an anarchist and want to do a local project like a commune fair enough, but I've never had an actual explanation for how anarchism takes power which I feel like is a pretty insurmountable knock I agree with Matt Christman where he said that anarchists are leftists who can't handle the brutality necessary to form a socialist state
