Since 1990 there's been 128 teams that have gone 3 road games in a row, only 9 have gone 3-0. Rams play the 49ers to hopefully become the 10th and they flexed the game out!

NFL talking heads: You have to force Mahomes to stay in the pocket, he's too dangerous outside the pocket.

You need force Mahomes to move around while simultaneously keeping him contained and forcing him to throw when he doesn't want to. I don't know if there's any defense in the NFL capable of doing that right now or will be in the next 5 years.

I mean the Chiefs defense can't really get much worse, I don't think anyone can shape the players they have into a "good" defense though.

RPOs are way down this year, everyone is doing spread concepts with mesh routing or whatever it’s called

Sports Illustrated is doing a Crime Podcast with an investigator who did a private investigation in the death of Steve McNair. There's only one episode out and I haven't listened to it yet but it might be good. It's called "Fall of a Titan".

Are there any good breakdowns of how these route concepts work? I'd be interested to know how they differ from past offenses like WCO

These were the 2 websites I looked at. Mesh isn't really new, Mike Martz was using it back in 2000 and I think it's been in college football since the nineties, but it's definitely been refined.

This blog does good stuff on actual NFL teams

Jet Sweeps and motion are huge right now too. Everything is designed to make linebackers and corners look sideline to sideline horizontally then just have a receiver get a free release deep pretty much.

smartfootball has some good stuff too. RPOs are called packaged plays on the first link.

edit: i'm not sure i'd say there's a axis where RPOs and mesh concepts lie on, mesh is just another extension of the "man breaking" routes where it's easier to jump a route from zone than sticking a corner on a guy and having him trail the route, whereas RPOs try and isolate usually a linebacker or a box safety and make him decide between covering the gap in front of him and the hole in coverage behind him. currently you don't see so many RPOs because not a lot of QBs have experience running option plays. It's easier just to run a play where the receivers end up on either side of a coverage zone and the QB can pick the open one. The smartfootball guy loves those and goes into detail on them under "triangle plays" or something like that.

The only thing this might help is if they think Amari Cooper can be a top flight number 1 guy because everyone else on the roster is a 2nd or 3rd string wide receiver.

Cooper is good. He was going to be a free agent though, and Dallas is 3-4. I guess that isn’t firmly out of contention, and receiver is a need for them, but it’s a steep price for half a season of Amari Cooper and early negotiating rights.

Dallas could still easily win the NFC East

What about that poster that made a bet that they would write a nice paragraph about the opposing teams quarterback after they lost and it was really funny. Then everyone started doing the same toxx and ran it into the ground.
