lot of people who don't understand how human vs pokemon would go down 9 times out of 10 itt one pokeball works out to 4.39 american dollars assuming the ingame currency is equivalent to yen, so with a few days of dedicated scrounging and a careful throw any homeless person could have a sandcastle that eats bones

Hence why a lot of early on trainers are random kids with various Pokemon you can find in the immediate area. The game protagonists are kinda special and lucky bastards who get given a rare and powerful Pokemon right off the bat.
