The 2010 version runs fine on Windows 10, can't comment on the original game using that subtitle though. I mainly brought that up as one of the other instances where multiple Need For Speed games were released using the same title (Hot Pursuit, Most Wanted, Need For Speed :v:).

The let it warm up before you rev it / put it under heavy load is a pretty good one and shows good mechanical sympathy. Oil temp lags the water temp by more than you'd think and not putting too much stress on a motor before the oil is properly lubricating everything is a good idea. I always go easy for the first 10 mins or so of driving, if I have an oil temp gauge then only after it hits 70°C do I start driving it more aggressively with throttle inputs.

Never giving more than 1/4 throttle or above 3K RPM, yeah that'll choke it out with carbon over the long term. Nothing a good Italian tuneup or seafoam can't fix though.

My thoughts were of the ones who think you have to let it idle and heat soak for a half hour before you ever put it in gear.

Same. Don't thrash it cold but idling in the driveway isn't helping anything.

If it's below 40F I'll usually go start my car up 3-5 minutes before I'm ready to go. I live less than a mile from the interstate and want my poo poo at least a little warmed up before I have to gun it on the on-ramp.

Normally, in winter I start a vehicle and let it warm up while I clean off the snow/ice and if there's no snow or ice I'll let it idle for a few minutes and then be gentle.

The rental Accord I've been driving for the last 6 weeks gets the amount of time it takes me to put it in gear and then it gets thrashed, gently caress that car.

Yeah, but you have to account for that when considering equivalence of swept volume, the whole "my RX7 is a 1.3" thing is only worth maintaining in order to get capacity based tax breaks or get into a given race class.

Turbo cars are kind of cheating at this metric, for NA you have the S2000 producing 240hp from a 2l motor for 120hp/l, if I'm not mistaken it was the champ for production NA specific output for like a decade until Ferrari cooked something up.

Turbo's on the other hand, the not terribly remarkable first gen Veloster turbo produces 201hp with 1.6l for 125hp/l. Turn up the boost and specific output climbs higher and higher. With NA it's all about flow characteristics on the head, and efficiency of engine design. Those things help with getting a better metric on a turbo car but they're difficult to figure out and it's easy to just shove more air into the engine by raising boost pressure instead.
