I went and ordered: 2017 Core Set Zombie Dragon Wraiths Baba Yaga's Hut Tree of Despair Agramon Rules of Hell Stygian Barge 74035 x5 (1" round) 74036 x2 (2" round) 74037 x2 (3" round) 74041 x2 (20mm round flat top) 74070 x1 (170mm x 105mm Oval) Came to a grand total of $250.19, which is just 19 cents over for what I got for a commission so it's coming out of my "play money." Easily the most I've ever thrown at a Kickstarter.

Reaper announced a new brand of Bones that will be in production called Bones Black. Their press release claims that this new type will have:
They're offering a Bones Black model each month, that's free for every order of $40 or more, much like past monthly deals. They can also be purchased separately, and this month's model is the Owlbear pictured above.

Ravendas posted:I just wonder how this will affect the next (?) kickstarter. I can only assume that they'll be using Bones Black for any future KS. It'd be dumb of them not to push their new formula as a selling point.

Zark the Damned posted:I can't say I'm surprised there's delays, it just wouldn't be a proper Bones KS without them... True, though a delay by only a month is pretty small for Reaper.

I'm in on wave 1, but because I ordered the Tree of Despair and Baba Yaga's Hut, I don't even know if I'll get a notification in the next week or so.

Got my box in yesterday. I'm still sorting through stuff, but thoughts so far:
I'll be taking photos at some point over the next day, once I've got them sorted.

So! An unboxing, of sorts. Warning: lots of images, and somewhat large image size. Mostly to preserve detail for the curious. The full spread. I kept the core box contents inside for the time being. I uh, ran out of ziplock bags distressingly quickly. Stygian Barge, in separate bags and partially assembled. It's very long, probably 15" if I'd hazard a guess. Zombie dragon. Like I said, he's kind of small, but I like it. You could probably fit a rider on the back if you're using it for a wargame like KoW. Baba Yaga's hut. It's heavy and unfortunately, pre-assembled. I wouldn't normally mind this, but you see... There's some big gaps that are going to be a bitch to fill in. Wraiths. Simple, effective, would make for a good stand-in for Nazgűl for LotR. Agramon. Like I said, lots of hands! Tree of Despair. The base is slightly warped in that it doesn't sit level with a desk or anything, so some reshaping may be needed. Rulers of Hell. They come with some hilariously tiny bases. Core box set. It's got some cute designs on it, but you can see why I haven't popped open and gone through the contents. That'd be a whole afternoon to sort through and since I took these shots in the break room, I wasn't going to get into it today. Zark the Damned posted:Aww, that's a shame. I was hoping they would so I could surprise players in D&D or something... I'm lead to believe that it's been heat bonded or something, so prying the legs off is going to be a pain. The ol' freezer trick might work, but I can't say for certain.

So! I assembled Gauth, the Big Boy from the Core set. I ended up having to pin his tail to the base. He's very, VERY top-heavy thanks to the wings, and so his weak ankle support causes him to slowly lean forward until he's basically kissing the ground. With the tail where it is now, he's remained upright for a couple of days with no additional pinning or support needed, so I call that a win. Keep that in mind if you're looking to counter-weight him yourself. Tiny dwarf knows where the dragon is. And a comparison shot with all the other Bones dragons I have assembled so far. Sheer wing span means he's taller than Nethyrmaul, but even discounting that he's bigger than the converted Kyra & Lavarath model. Dude's an absolute unit of a model. Edit: pieces before assembly. Not many, and it all fits together well enough. Slimnoid fucked around with this message at 21:41 on May 7, 2019 |

Reaper is still doing Ghoulie Bags this month. It isn't being advertised on their site, but it'll show up on orders of $40 or more. I got mine in today. I needed some paints and decided to bulk up the order with some interesting models. The Ghoulie Bag contents. Bonus model is a translucent purple version of the female wraith model they have. The candy disappeared in minutes because I'm a horrible trash goblin. Standard colors for their bonus bags. Graveyard Bone is new, but the other two will go on my paint rack alongside the 3 other copies I've got floating around. Hard to photograph, but it looks nice. It smells like a skunk though, which I chalk up to whatever casting chemicals they use. Bonus model for this month. Might be a sign of new packaging in the future. "Dark Dwarf Pounder" is also my porn name now, sorry.

I'm of two minds about the integrated bases. On the one hand, having something that can easily keep the model balanced while also offering some neat terrain detail is cool, particularly for beginners; on the other hand, half the drat time the feet/pegs don't line up perfectly, and if I want to glue them onto a different kind of base I either get rid of the integrated base entirely or have to cut around it/fill in gaps. As an example, the Bones Black Cave Troll is a really nice sculpt with a bare-bones base that I have no interest in. The troll's feet have this extra bit of mold to it on the bottom soles, so gluing it directly to a new base looks awkward unless I either trim the extra molding off or sculpt around the feet. It's not difficult or anything, just mildly annoying.
