France has a better W/L record than the USA, the USA would have lost its revolution without France's help, and Napoleon existed.

The concept of the French being bad at war just because Germany lucked out and encircled their troops in WW2 is pretty dumb.

Contrary to all that we’re hearing, the real mystery is not that we revolted, but the fact that we didn’t do it sooner. What’s abnormal is not what we’re doing now, but all that we’ve put up with until now. Who can deny the bankruptcy of the system, from every angle? Who still wants to be shook down, robbed, and left precarious for nothing? Will anyone weep as the wealthy avenues of the 16th arrondissement are plundered by the poor, and the bourgeois watch their gleaming SUV’s go up in flames? As for Macron, he can stop complaining; it was he who asked us to come to him. A state can’t keep legitimating itself by reference to the corpse of a “glorious revolution” and then denounce the rioters as soon as a revolution gets going.

The situation is simple: the people want the fall of the system.

yeah pretty much

6-8 people control as much wealth as the bottom half of the planet, that bottom half dies by the score due to easily preventable diseases, lack of clean water/food, and other such simple poo poo we can fix. There is no moral, ethical, religious, etc. reason to keep capitalism around. Even within so called rich countries the inequalities have become extreme and most suffer while a few get ever richer.

Good on France.

Child rioters, some as young as 12-years-old, were among 153 arrested at a single high school as violent protests over the President’s policies threaten all-out anarchy in Paris. Terrifying footage shows riot police armed with batons guarding the youngsters from the Lycée Saint-Exupéry high school in Mante-la-Jolie - 30 miles west of the capital. The officers are heard shouting at the children and threatening them with violent disorder charges, including "participation in an armed crowd".

This is the same basket of services promised by populist politicians across the world. And those promises are empty. There is no way to pay for an endless welfare state without endless taxes. According to the Tax Foundation, the Nordic social democracies so beloved by progressives across the world tax the bejeezus out of their citizens: 60.4 percent income tax rate in Denmark, applicable at approximately 1.2 times the average income, as of 2015;

Goddamn this loving guy. First of all, he uses tax rates from 2015 to pad his argument out - they actually cut taxes a bit since 2015. Second of all, he totally ignores the fact that Denmark has a progressive income tax so uh dude if you're paying that much in taxes you're making a lot of money.

quote:

Under the Danish tax system, it is possible for a high-wage earner to pay up to 51.5% of their total income after gross tax, giving a total of 55.38% of total income.

Also, people in the Nordic countries are way happier!!! So what's his goddamn point exactly?!

Paris riots set to continue as French leader fails to appease protesters

The Yellow Shirt movement gained new support on Tuesday from another group of French citizens angry over changes brought in by Macron's government: students.

There has been a fierce reaction from high school and university-aged students to new standardized testing policies, a lack of college enrolment places available to graduates, and new requirements for graduates to secure those places.

One student protesting in Paris on Tuesday, who gave only his first name, said he saw a "link" with the Yellow Vests over what he called "despair in the society."

Groups of students set fires and blockaded schools from Paris to the south of France on Tuesday. Thousands of high school students gathered in central Paris and elsewhere across the nation and knelt on the ground with their hands behind their heads in front of police -- a symbolic show of solidarity with fellow students arrested last week at another school protest.

You stand in a designated area, usually facing some empty government building or symbol of state power, while speakers from participating groups recite some speeches. There is intermittant clapping, and sometimes some people take up a chant or two. You're surrounded by police, who generally have armored vans lined up and down the street to take anyone beliggerant away.

It's not very effective as a means of pressure, but it can help to build morale within the protesting group.
