If there's any truth to the media reports that the protests include members of the far right and the far left, would they not be beating each other up? My instinct is that it's mostly people on the far left confronting the cops and that the far right is sat at home taking credit online, but it seems impossible to find any coverage that confirms or denies this.

Has The Guardian et al gotten struck with a D-Notice, or is there a liberal consensus to not report on the protests anymore?

Bolton Hairy-Bore posted:The Guardian reported that the 80 year old woman who died was killed by a tear gas canister thrown back by protesters, somehow. They're such cop lovers that they unquestionably recite even foreign police statements as fact. Do you have a source for this? I can't find it, and there's no list of redactions.

Is it illegal / a breach of procedure to identify someone suspected of committing a crime in France? Apparently the police officers' union, the SCPN, and the minister of the interior published a picture of the boxer in an official match. I guess they never used his name, but that seems as good as identifying him to me. Or do those rules just apply to the media? Would be nice if he got off because the douche-bags were too vengeful. thotsky has issued a correction as of 20:38 on Jan 7, 2019 |

You stand in a designated area, usually facing some empty government building or symbol of state power, while speakers from participating groups recite some speeches. There is intermittant clapping, and sometimes some people take up a chant or two. You're surrounded by police, who generally have armored vans lined up and down the street to take anyone beliggerant away. It's not very effective as a means of pressure, but it can help to build morale within the protesting group. thotsky has issued a correction as of 00:14 on Jan 8, 2019 |

Does it matter? The cops are definitely going to prepare for a siege.

Nah, no reason to give them any credit.

I mean, judging by the polls and stuff they've written thus far it's going to be a referendum on whether you need to give the rich ALL the money, or just 99.9% of the money.

Will there be more acts, or was this the movement going out with a bang? Is Macron doubling down on "fighting fire with fire" or whatever going to engage more people or will they give up since no more concessions appear to be forthcoming? I'd hoped maybe this would spread as spring arrived, any chance it could pick up again as the weather gets better? It sucks that seemingly nobody is reporting much on it. Social media appears to be a lot more ineffectual than I assumed. Watching you give them hell makes my day though.

It has shifted from a conservative protectionist cabal to a globalist neoliberal one, massively adding various institutions to itself, but it was never about solidarity or peace, that's just liberal window dressing.

Hey, sorry, normally I just lurk and repost all of the good (bad) stuff to my friend who's also invested in this fight. I was wondering if any of you have any interviews with Macron about the protesters / unrest? Could be about the gilet jaunes, or the latest pension stuff. Anything really.
