Chris James 2 posted:And like a year after coming back she was put in a story where she helped Alexa call Nia fat a lot and made her cry This was also after Alexa spent a month calling Mickie an old hag, kicked her rear end a bunch of times, and they were somehow friends again right afterwards How the hell is "thrown in front of a train by James Storm" not the weirdest angle of Mickie James' career?

It's pretty insane/hilarious that you could fill out a 64-field bracket of the worst things WWE has ever done, leave out enough worthy contenders to run a consolation bracket if you want, and still be left with notable snubs.

Yeah I'm going with the terrorism angle, which is also notable for essentially killing Hassan's career (not that he was a great or even good wrestler, but once the angle aired and he got pulled from TV, that was it for him)

The medical "concern" was always bullshit and Bryan knew it, which is why he tried getting out of his contract in the first place. WWE only cared in the sense that they didn't want him making another company money.

The Booker T angle was complete bullshit on a million different levels, both kayfabe and real life. Here's a good article from a black fan's perspective on how lovely it really felt (and the Hogan joke is depressingly prescient): https://uproxx.com/prowrestling/triple-h-booker-t-wrestlemania-19-anniversary/quote:“You’re not here to be a competitor. You’re here to be an entertainer.”

The Hawk thing definitely belongs in this tournament but IMO it's a mismatch against Booker/HHH, which should be at least a few seeds higher

Every time the Reid angle gets brought up someone barges in with "durrr Charlotte was OK with it and actually pushed for it" and I'm like ... is that supposed to make Charlotte look good? Or is she just covering the company's rear end for something everybody knew was a bad idea? Because it's still lovely and exploitative, no matter who came up with it. And it sure as hell wasn't cleared by the whole family, given Ric's (by all accounts genuine) reaction. Reminder that there was literally no payoff to this angle because Paige and Charlotte did a double-turn like 2 weeks later. Benne fucked around with this message at 06:02 on Dec 13, 2018 |

There's a long fruitful discussion to be had about the hosed-up power dynamics and toxic work environment that Vince McMahon has fostered over the decades, which eventually leads to situations like talent agreeing to and/or coerced into kissing his rear end on live television. But it's late and I'm tired so I'll just say you're a loving moron and move on with my life.

One of the most important qualities of a good journalist is not necessarily being the first to break a story -- it's the followup coverage that really matters. Dave has always been great at digging into stories as they develop, updating, and providing the greater context as he goes along unpacking new details. It's a very meat-and-potatoes slow-burn style of journalism, which often gets lost over a fandom conditioned to sensationalist DIRSTSHEETZ NEWZ SCOOPZ type coverage.

Anyway, if we're opening up the field to non-WWE people then we gotta include Yoshiko for shooting on Act Yasukawa and ending her careerquote:On February 22, 2015, Yoshiko faced former stablemate Act Yasukawa in her third defense of the World of Stardom Championship. The match saw Yoshiko go off script,[25] legitimately beating Yasukawa until veteran wrestler Kyoko Kimura threw in a towel to end the match after less than eight minutes.[26][27] Afterwards, Yasukawa was diagnosed with fractured cheek, nasal and orbital bones, which required surgery.[28][29] Yasukawa had had issues with her eyes before the incident, having undergone a cataract surgery the previous year.[29] On February 25, Stardom held a press conference, during which Yoshiko publicly apologized for the incident, after which she was stripped of the World of Stardom Championship and suspended indefinitely.[30][31] The incident received mainstream attention in Japan and became known as Seisan Matchi (凄惨マッチ, "Ghastly Match").[32][33] The incident also strained the relationship between Stardom's management and top wrestler Nanae Takahashi, leading to Takahashi quitting the promotion in May.[34] On May 31, Stardom announced that Yoshiko had decided to retire from professional wrestling.[35][36] Her retirement ceremony took place on June 14, however, during the closing ten-bell salute meant to signal the end of her career, Yoshiko walked out on the ceremony, leading to questions over whether she was truly retired.[37][38] Yasukawa eventually returned to the ring on September 23, 2015,[39][40] but retired the following December due to the damage inflicted on her eye in the incident with Yoshiko.

As a dumb American who barely heard of Savile before his death and the subsequent revelations, I'm trying to think of a possible American equivalent for what he did (famous star who used his power to abuse vulnerable people and cover it up for decades on end). At first I thought Jerry Sandusky, but he was only at the assistant coach level and fairly obscure even to most hardcore football fans (and also was long retired when the investigation started), while Savile was a massive TV star and pop culture icon. I think I've settled on R. Kelly now that his monstrous actions, and the buddies who protected him along the way, are finally getting the scrutiny they deserve. Either way, if Savile was eligible for this tournament he'd win in a landslide.
