Small Computer Systems Interface is a venerable bus standard for connecting computer components. It is primarily known as a hard drive interface but one could also find external drives, scanners and other peripherals that use it. Devices can be either internal to the PC, using a ribbon cable, or they might be external using a Centronics style connector (which came in different standards). Devices must be manually configured with a device ID (usually with jumpers or DIP switches) and may be daisy-chained, with the last device on the chain requiring a special termination cap.

Computer janitors have long argued about the pronunciation of the acronym. Where many people pronounce it like "scuzzy," its proponents argue that it should be pronounced "sexy" as per the last wishes of its inventor, William S. Computers. Much like the gif/jif debate this is still hotly contested and often used as a shibboleth among computer enthusiasts.

Personally, I pronounce it "scuzzy," but I also say "jif" and use greenpos.

the guy who invented the gif standard is from Mexico, and based on the spanish derivation of the word for moving picture, so the pronunciation is "hif" if you want to be technically correct
