Lake Mungo is barely a horror movie. It's a supernaturally laced rumination on grief. It just happens to have one of the best scares ever. Additionally, to this day after seeing it upwards of ten times, the Ken Burns zooms on the photos at the end showing that she's been there the entire time but the family isn't capable of seeing it, gives me chills every time including right now as I type this.

Really sad I missed Boondocks Saints bashing so *taps mic* The Boondock Saints is Donnie Darko for people who have screamed a racial slur at a TV while a sports game was on.

I've never seen a movie fall apart so quickly in the last 15 minutes as Assassination Nation did. It's like they forgot to finish the script.

The beauty of great horror is that it can dig deep into your soul and scare you without throwing spook-a-doodle monster CGI faces at the screen. Hereditary hosed me up because that dinner scene felt way too familiar with an alcoholic father. My friend's favorite film of the year was Mandy because his wife passed from cancer and he said Mandy was basically a power fantasy for a widow, being able to destroy the intangible demons that took a person you love. We both loved Annihilation because it's about coming out of trauma irrevocably changed. Anyway, horror is pretty cool and I love this thread. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Godzilla's Revenge was on on TNT/TBS a lot in my youth along with Megalon and Ghidorah making it possibly the Godzilla film i've seen second most. I felt like IT was a good version of what the Conjuring Connected Universe tries to be. There’s a place for thrill ride jump scare fests if done well.

I felt like Blackcoat really cheated on it’s twist via the casting and it hurt my enjoyment of it overall. Still a good film and imagine it was the entirety of Kiernan Shipka’s audition real for Satanist Sabrina.

Lords of Salem is the first RZ I didn’t hate outright and I’m at a loss for a great way to put why into words other than it’s his least try-hard movie. It feels like a complete story and not yet another deep dive into redneck serial killers. Oh and I missed horror chili talk but watch Motel Hell bitches. It's probably the best of the ones I listed? Tough to remember. Not nearly as rancid and offensive as the Silent Night Deadly Night remake that is a good argument for destruction of art.

VHS1 is a great seed of an idea that mostly works (the glitch killer is unwatchable imo) and 2 runs with the idea and is an all timer anthology. VHS3 is... different? But I think I still like it? I’d probably have a different answer to this every day.
