Big Bad Voodoo Lou posted:Nope, it was Tombstone. He's an albino. In the comics, his daughter is a supervillain and a lawyer. But I repeat myself. Excellent film. Also remarkably lean for how much it's juggling. Most films introducing this many characters feel bloated, but this actually keeps focus.

wdarkk posted:Marvel used to have a thing where there were in-universe marvel comics that functioned as a historical record. Of course, it's pretty variable. Some runs imply that it's the actual comic in front of you (back in the Stan and Jack days, Doctor Doom once invaded the Marvel offices to force them to call Reed Richards in to set up an ambush.), other times it's implied they're pretty different (like the time they released copies of the "actual" comics they sell in universe. The FF weren't too far off their usual, save for the narration by the family and the features like Ben's workout routine, but Spider-Man... was less accurate.). Varies by writer, era, and degree of seriousness.

That's one hell of a nice touch. It's like the (Spider-)man says He'll always have his family.

nine-gear crow posted:Then maybe just let it go talk about the film then instead of being like 5th-hand mad by proxy about a 4 year old really liking a comic book movie. It's a good movie. That four year old has good taste. And it's really thematically cool, because Mile's big moment is finally making Spider-Man move from being a thing he purchased to a thing that's part of him, using his talents and sense of aesthetics to make something based off the past, but distinct. It's almost like the film is acknowledging that it's based around a corporate product while celebrating both the initial intent, and how people can interpret that intent to make something matter to them.

Ghost Leviathan posted:I think the usual argument is that the movie is basically Strong Female Protagonist style *SEXISM IS OVER* except with black people. But frankly it's far better than nothing and not like most people are really going to internalise the more questionable parts of the message that the rest of pop culture and Marvel movies in particular are already putting out anyway. Got no fame, no fortune to claim Fighting for the status quo
