Ooof wow.

Might have been reasonably curious before but now I'm morbidly curious and want to at least watch an episode to see how hosed it is. I gave Gate that much at least.

A bit confused since when I look up Gate anime it shows me this one series about a portal to an isekai world opening up near Ginza and some JSDF people going over there or something and the anime is from 2015 and the manga from 2011. The one about the WW2 vet who was involved in the Nanking Massacre and talks about as if it were the Goo Ole days was named something else(Thank God that got canned and good on the VA's for walking over his tweets).

Like yeah Tsubame acts VERY inappropriately towards Misha, but I think that's the joke in that we the viewer are SUPPOSED to recognize about how loving crazy and weird she is. This doesn't make it any less creepy and it very much isn't everyone's brand of humor especially in this instance, but I get the joke and what it's trying to achieve. Compare that to BADLY built worlds to facilitate horrific events for no reason except shock value, God awful premises, and overt misogyny and yeah and Uzumaid just feels...benign by comparison.

Goblin Slayer is bad because it uses a grimdark fantasy setting as a thin veil for how disgusting you're supposed to find 'other races'.

Shingo Natsume did ACCA, Space Dandy, and One-Punch Man. He's a talented dude, and even if it isn't stylish in the same way as the first anime, it'll probably be pretty damned stylish.

It's jingoistic as hell to start and I think the MC gets a loli harem at some point. Not quite as hosed as Shield Hero apparently is but still pretty hosed.

Yeah that's some hosed up rhetoric. Like if Uzumaid is being used to push that kind of poo poo then yeah gently caress that man. You can toss it into kindling pile too.

The jingoism I figured, but what the gently caress is with there always being a loving loli harem?

Fascists and conservatives more generally fetishize innocence on both an individual and cultural level. For a portion this also crosses over with literal sexual attraction.

There really isn't. One character dresses in goth loli style.

Ah yes, that's totally a thing that is specifically associated with a particular political faction. #map #clawshrimpy

Kaguya-sama and The Quintuplet Brides if you like cute idiots. Boogiepop looks like it's gonna be good. Kakegurui's 2nd season is probably going to be both very, very silly, fairly thirsty and most deffo batshit crazy.

If you're willing to watch continuing shows from fall, both Run With The Wind and Reincarnated as a Slime are both extremely good in different ways.

I dunno how far you got, but it starts really slow before it gets a good feel for the characters and what exactly makes them funny. I think a straight, panel by panel, chapter by chapter adaptation would be bad for a 13 episode season, but it could be great if the director feels comfortable mixing things up and skipping ahead when necessary.

kaguya is being directed by mamoru hatakeyama (or is he using his other name? idk) so i'm expecting it to be a very visually stylish take on the material. he obviously has rakugo under his belt but even his more generic fantasy adaptation, grancrest saga, had really striking layouts and action.

From what I've heard, things will be picking up the pace and if so and it ends where I think it will...DAYUM. As an aside, it's like you combined Disgaea, Makai Kingdom, Sid Meier Civ, and Overlord.

I said it in the show thread, but I think Slime is the best version of Overlord. Take all the lovely stuff and replace it with joy and optimism.

Slime is good, but it can't beat Overlord. Non-protagonist characters are more developed, and its better at creating stakes even though Ainz is also a super-powerful character. Character designs are better too. Overlord isn't trying to be a super-chill show, so you can't fault it for being less optimistic. Its not like Overlord is misery porn (aside from one bad novel that had a pacing problem).

I don't think there's a lot of intersection between Slime and Overlord. They're both Isekai with untouchable protagonists and that's about it.

overlord is too edgy at times, slime has never gotten anywhere near an edge. they go to opposite extremes despite having the same basic premise.
