I have made that comparison in another subforum, still sounds likely.
The comic company in question was NOW Comics, which came up not that long ago as the company that did Married with Children (and a bunch of other licensed comics) books back in the early 1990s. They're notable for being where Lieber, Alex Ross, and Clint McElroy (?) all got their first comics work published.

Is that the one where he bribes Pete with lasagna? I didn't realize that actually had ramifications (and don't remember him revealing his identity).

Yet where is that woman now? Tell me, in what heave does she reside? None of them. Because no God bothered to listen or care. If that is what you think it means to be a God, then you and all your teachings are welcome to do as that poor women did. And vanish from these realms forever.

I don't want to sound like I'm diminishing E&C's expertise and archive because it really does seem to be vastly comprehensive, but I get the impression that he's also simply a fast and clever and intuitive researcher, which is something we can all be, with the resources that the internet offers, if we want to be.

For example, I was curious how long it would take me, with very little background info on this question, to get to the same conclusion about the Lieber post. I knew from the original post that this was an indie company that Lieber did pencils for, and that it was early in his career. Clicking through showed that it was a horror comic, a short story with a twist ending. So I went to comicbookdb and looked through his list of credits-- and found that his very first credits were a few issues of The Twilight Zone in 1991/1992-- for NOW Comics, which (and I suppose this is background knowledge creeping in but it really just saved me a step or two) which I knew had a vexed and somewhat shady financial situation in the early 90s. I imagine that one could verify that hunch pretty easily-- I'd be pretty surprised if his two Twilight Zone issues weren't available on a scan site or something.

So I think that the thing is more that E&C puts a fair amount of effort and research into his posts, not that he's a one-of-a-kind comic book supergenius (although apologies to E&C if he's in fact a one-of-a-kind comic book supergenius) which is something, again, all of us could do, and which I try to emulate because for real it's always useful and helpful.

I'm pretty sure his real world job involves being a great researcher but on top of that he's another one of us that grew up with this poo poo over the last three decades. He just has a better recall than most of us. He's like our own, less lovely version of SuperMechaGodzilla. But in a good way, not the douchey, talk down to you way.

It's a combination of A and B (well, not the supergenius part, but knowing a lot about comic books).

A lot of it is knowing that sites like comicbookdb.com, comichron.com, dcindexes.com etc. exist and are there for anyone to look up.

Another part is having read comics since I was a little kid in the late 1980s, and also having spent way too much time in the past few years collecting and going through old issues of Wizard, Comic Buyers Guide, Previews, Advance Comics, etc. because I have ill-formed notions of trying to write something about the comic book booms/busts of the 1980s and 1990s, and a lot of that pre-Internet comics news/data is rotting away (literally, in a warehouse down near the water in Brooklyn that I go to once a month or so to buy all of the old comics magazines that the owner's cat hasn't pissed on yet) and even if I don't end up writing something I want to preserve that information.

Through that cratedigging I've actually found some stuff that there appears to be little/no Internet footprint for, whether it's Scott Lobdell's first pro credit writing a GLOW-knockoff photo comic for Fabian Niceza's brother in 1985, Michael Avon Oeming breaking in doing Star Wars porn parody comics, or that there was a solicitation for a Todd McFarlane X-Men parody starring Impossible Man for his penultimate issue of Spider-Man before leaving to form Image.

Knowing what to look for obviously helps but yeah, there are tons of resources out there.
