“On June 18, 2018, the U.S. Senate passed a bill blocking the transfer of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey. The prohibition was established due to concerns over Turkey's intent to procure the S-400 air defense system, which would allegedly put the secrets of the F-35 at risk. In August 2018, U.S. President Donald Trump signed the bill, which blocked the transfer of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey. Despite the suspension of deliveries, the F-35 Joint Program Office claimed on August 21, that it would execute the program according to existing plans. Another bill was passed by the US Senate on August 23, which prohibited any spending related to the transfer of F-35s to Turkey until it was certified that Turkey would not purchase nor accept delivery of the Russian S-400 air defense system.”

Except for the carrot of Patriots, that looks like where things still are.

Unfortunately Turkey already has a lot of the tech, since they're one of the major suppliers to the European line.

It depends on timing. There are only a couple of selection boards per year, and sometimes they get cancelled. So if you miss the submission deadline, you're stuck waiting a year. After the board, it can take a couple of months for you to get the results. Then you can get a class date anywhere from 30 days out to about 300.

Well since that's unlikely what do you think the value of the political theater of it all would be? Certainly Bill's impeachment affected Hilldawg's run down the line. It might have a ton of political value absent a conviction even.

Maybe. But I don't think he'll care unless he actually personally takes a consequence. Impeachment on its own isn't going to pwn Trump. Unless you can remove him from office against his will he'll forget about it in a week and be calling it fake news in 10 days. And half the country will believe him, because they think impeachment means removing the president from office, and if he's still in office then he obviously wasn't impeached :smug:

Vasudus posted:

He's privately said he wants to leave the government shut down even if he manages to get funding through declaring a national emergency, just to punish the Dems. The only way we might get the government back open is a veto proof majority and McConnel and friends don't give a gently caress about how much damage they do because they'll turn around in a couple years, blame the Dems, and a sizable portion of the electorate will go along with them.
