Lake of Methane posted:“On June 18, 2018, the U.S. Senate passed a bill blocking the transfer of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey. The prohibition was established due to concerns over Turkey's intent to procure the S-400 air defense system, which would allegedly put the secrets of the F-35 at risk. In August 2018, U.S. President Donald Trump signed the bill, which blocked the transfer of F-35 fighter jets to Turkey. Despite the suspension of deliveries, the F-35 Joint Program Office claimed on August 21, that it would execute the program according to existing plans. Another bill was passed by the US Senate on August 23, which prohibited any spending related to the transfer of F-35s to Turkey until it was certified that Turkey would not purchase nor accept delivery of the Russian S-400 air defense system.” Unfortunately Turkey already has a lot of the tech, since they're one of the major suppliers to the European line.

Long wait list for folks to statistically be predisposed to bailing It depends on timing. There are only a couple of selection boards per year, and sometimes they get cancelled. So if you miss the submission deadline, you're stuck waiting a year. After the board, it can take a couple of months for you to get the results. Then you can get a class date anywhere from 30 days out to about 300.

Kawasaki Nun posted:Well since that's unlikely what do you think the value of the political theater of it all would be? Certainly Bill's impeachment affected Hilldawg's run down the line. It might have a ton of political value absent a conviction even. Maybe. But I don't think he'll care unless he actually personally takes a consequence. Impeachment on its own isn't going to pwn Trump. Unless you can remove him from office against his will he'll forget about it in a week and be calling it fake news in 10 days. And half the country will believe him, because they think impeachment means removing the president from office, and if he's still in office then he obviously wasn't impeached Vasudus posted:Impeachment is a lightning rod to both sides. This is what I'm trying to say. Impeachment isn't the end game, and it shouldn't be treated like it. That's why the idiot from CA needs to stop filing articles of impeachment every time Starbucks spells his name wrong. You've got ONE loving shot at making it hurt. Fister Roboto posted:The longer this shutdown lasts, the more likely it is that the Senate Rs will realize that Trump is a noose wrapped around all of their necks. Once their supporters start realizing they can't pay their bills, maybe. It depends who they blame.

Casimir Radon posted:I'm worried because Donnie doesn't have much to lose now. He failed to get anything done during two years of unified government, Mueller is closing in, the FBI potentially found some damning stuff, and the House Dems are going to start issuing subpoenas. He has no incentive not to wreck everything. He's privately said he wants to leave the government shut down even if he manages to get funding through declaring a national emergency, just to punish the Dems. The only way we might get the government back open is a veto proof majority and McConnel and friends don't give a gently caress about how much damage they do because they'll turn around in a couple years, blame the Dems, and a sizable portion of the electorate will go along with them. He pushed through his richfolk tax break, thinks he's winning the trade war AND immigration (all that's missing is the wall), and moved the embassy in Israel. He thinks he's doing well.
