The Tim Shaw thing bugged me and I couldn't put my finger on why, and today it dawned on me that calling somebody by the wrong name is what extremely lovely people do to trans people and maybe teaching children it's okay to do if it's somebody you hate isn't the best.

I legitimately never thought of this and it is really fascinating. It's a common comedy trope but Tim Shaw bit doesn't work and now I'm understanding why.

B-b-b-but Doctor Who is sacred. This absolutely ruins the show for me.

I keep thinking about J.R.R. Tolkin and C.S. Lewis. J.R.R. claimed that LotR wasn't a direct parallel to the political climate of his times but obviously it seeped its way into his work. C.S. Lewis' work, however, was much more on the nose, obviously, with its heavy-handed metaphors. I feel like last season was much more Lewis-y.

I heard Chibnall went into a restaurant, and ate everything in the restaurant, and they had to close the restaurant.

I'm rewatching the latest series, and now I'm a bit more prepared for the style it's going for I'm enjoying it a lot more l

HOWEVER

Take a drink every time the Doctor says something like 'Oh I met Charlie Chaplin once, excellent darts player' subsituting in any historical figure with any random wacky pastime.

It's starting to drive me up the loving wall.

I also did a rewatch. Episode 5-9 hold up so much better than I remember. The bookends of the season, however, not so much. Which might be why I had a lower opinion of the season when I first watched it. Also, other than "The Tsuranga Conundrum", they were not written by Chibnall. "It Takes You Away" is honestly one of my favorite Doctor Who episodes ever.

I don't remember what happened in either of those. Which was the one with the spiders? I remember the first episode and Ghost Monument, I remember the final episode which my brain still insists was called "The Battle of Orms-by-Gore", I vaguely remember what went on in the Dalek one. The rest of the season is a total blank with spiders in it somewhere.

Spiders was Episode 4. Yeah, I was the same way until I did the rewatch, apart from "It Takes You Away" I had no memory - that's why I was so surprised how much I like the middle of the season on rewatch.

I forgot Patrick Troughton plays the priest trying to warn everyone about Damien in The Omen. It feels like something the Doctor would do... going undercover as a priest to stop an evil child.

I've bee watching the first season of the classic series and I feel like The Sensorites is the first serial that really feels like Doctor Who. Previous to this the Doctor really felt like much more of an observer of the situation than an active participant. Ian did a lot of the heavy lifting in the first serials. This is also the first episode where we get Hartnell's charming goofiness.

Also, let us never forgot how this all began...

I, personally, rather like 13's Himalayan Salt Lamp interior. It gives the TARDIS an organic vibe we've never seen before but I agree that it is too dark.
