The Yankees dominance of Baseball lead to a loss of interest in the sport. The NFL's mantra of "On any given day, any NFL team can beat any other NFL team." helped drive interest in the league.

Patriots are bad for the NFL.

Without the patriots the rest of the league would accept constant mediocrity because a roll of the dice would win a super bowl every ten years or so. Like a bad coach gutting out a lucky division win at the end of the season every couple years for another extension. With the patriots, you have to be actually good. It's really tough for a lot of fanbases and teams to accept.
