You're the Worst is just...it's just the best. It's such an experience and if this is your first time hearing about it I'm gonna suggest you start at the beginning because it's such a ride. Let's meet our plucky heroes, shall we? Chris Geere plays our male lead, Jimmy Shive-Overly, aka lovely Jimmy to people back home in England. A narcissistic, pompous writer (so...a writer), he's decently well off to afford a very nice home with a fantastic view (full disclosure, I'd slaughter each and every one of you for that bedroom). Of the 4 leads, his journey has been the most mundane, outside of his relationship with Gretchen (which is the central relationship of the show anyways, so it's more than enough). He mostly struggles for recognition and appreciation for his "genius". He holds onto grudges until the heat death of the universe, and the first scene of the first episode shows him trying to piss off an ex at her wedding. After spending season 4 on the outs with Gretchen, he proposes and she accepts. Gretchen Cutler is played by the wonderful Aya Cash. Aya made headlines in season 2 for her groundbreaking portrayal of Gretchen's depression. Gretchen is a publicist and pretty drat good at her job, but has trouble wrangling her main client who more often than not ends up keeping her in check. She refuses to buy into the whole "2 kids, white picket fence" deal but her actions when her walls are down say differently. Forever a wild child, but with deep insecurities that people who know her can cut to pretty quickly. Her tendency to operate in extremes and to go a little overboard tends to be the leading force in her arc. Her best friend is Lindsay. Edgar Quintero is a veteran with PTSD who somehow ended up living with Jimmy, rent free, in exchange for essentially being a servant. His arc is all about building himself back up into someone who can function in society, and he succeeds. He starts off doing improv, and then later working with Doug Benson. He even dates a woman named Dorothy for a while who ends up breaking it off when she realizes he's more successful than her and she won't ever be able to match that (for anyone else whose into musicals, think The Last 5 Years). He's got a thing for Lindsay that thus far has gone unrequited. Probably the best person as far as morals go on this show, he's not afraid to stand up to his friends. Played by Desmin Borges And last but not least... Support Staff Todd Robert Anderson and Janet Varney play Vernon and Becca. Becca is Lindsay's sister and Jimmy's ex, and she clearly still has feelings for him. Very controlling, vindictive, and determined to come out on top no matter what, she's pretty awful. Her desire to outshine Lindsay lead her to marry Vernon ("a man who shaves his pubic hair into a V") and she has no bones about her disdain of him. Vernon is easily the best person in the cast. He's convinced Jimmy is his best friend. He's a doctor with a nice chunk of change. Very friendly and endearing but very much a frat boy who never grew up and completely oblivious to his wife's hatred of him. Paul, played by Allan McLeod, is Lindsay's ex-husband. Very sweet, but the biggest dork in all the land. However, after Lindsay has an abortion without telling him, his dark and vengeful side comes out (which...fair). Final season is well underway! Let's get these kids hitched! Rabbi Raccoon fucked around with this message at 21:40 on Mar 27, 2019 |

I'll leave this here and then close the one I started lol. Fifth and final season started Wednesday, January 9 and no one made a thread yet. So here it is. Where did we leave off? Jake and Ziggy Jake and Ziggy are still at the video store, with Jake growing ever more restless and customer loathing by the day. Jake meets Gemma, the film fangirl of his dreams, but there's a catch: she'll only go out with him if he can track down a copy of the ultra-rare "The Intransigence of Love". Ziggy and Jake jack into cyberspace, and steal a copy from Professor Soufflet. Romantic times ahoy! Jake runs into Gemma at a Princess Di memorial gathering, and meets Gemma's dickhead boyfriend, Greg. Heartbroken, Jake returns to the video store. Gemma breaks up with Greg, and visits Jake at the store so they can finally watch "The Intransigence of Love". Will it last? Stay tuned for next week!

that flash forward moment was a bit odd and well, I guess I wasn't expecting, but I guess this makes things go a little bit darker. Great episode and loving the season so far.

I've been loving this season. Sad it's the last, but grateful it gets a proper ending. The knowingly farcical tone/edit of episode 4 was great. That and episode 1 have been some all-time series highlights.

Y'all think these flash forwards are a fake-out?
|
# ? Feb 20, 2019 23:16 |
|
I'm not sure what I'm hoping for with those. On one hand, if it's some kind of fakeout and they're just moving, I'd feel like it was an unnecessary red herring done only to build tension. If they're getting divorced and Gretchen gets the house, it kinda makes the entire show pointless. And those are really the only two reasons I can think of why they'd get rid of the house. But I also trust the writing staff to lead us to a satisfying conclusion.

I'm actually kind of worried it's headed toward (I guess speculation spoilers) Gretchen committing suicide. In the hotel she checked in, and if I remember correctly she threw her keys out the window as if to say "gently caress it, I'm done". I don't see the show ending happy.

Last week’s episode could definitely be seen as the beginning of the end. But I hope it’s a fakeout, dammit!

I know sometimes broken people just shouldn’t be together is a compelling theme for relationships in media and one i’m usually happy with, but this show has somehow made me really want this one to work out okay.

Gretchen's half of this last episode was like getting punched in the gut repeatedly, but in a good way i'll let you all decide what to make of that.
