It was a surprise to see her in the Workaholics movie from last year. Half of that coming from how wild her eyebrows looked.

Oof, that movie was loving dire; I forgot she was in it.

"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

we're careening towards the end,

i'm terrified

edit:

well that was a journey. i'm still trying to parse exactly how i feel but here are some preliminary notes:

Good:
*you have to have a fairly hefty set of balls to use a song like "No Children" that has such an iconic television use already but I think the scene nails it and was well worth the risk
*Aya Cash in the scene with Edgar was loving outstanding. There's a certain point of anger where you are beyond yelling and screaming and you just have to make it very clear in a calm but firm voice that if it weren't very very illegal, you would be ripping the head off the person you're talking to and they should go away and never come back and with all the showy yelling that actors do most of the time I loved seeing Gretchen surpass that
*all complaints about foreshadowing aside, I think how Gretchen and Jimmy ended up is probably the most honest thing they could have done. Marriage never seemed quite right for them but they are truly in love, so choosing to be with each other every day sounds much more like the reality of their relationship. And at a certain point I can totally imagine them never getting married but Jimmy deciding that having a kid is the way to propagate his superior genes or something.
*the last minute or so, with Gretchen asking about Jimmy being able to deal with her depression, Jimmy's joke, and the devouring of breakfast foods, was perfect.

Bad:
*I'm gonna be honest, I think the little snippets of what we saw of the future from the previous episodes are kinda unnecessary and served less of an actual story/thematic use and more of a "we want mystery"use. Clips of the trashed car which they don't explain, Gretchen at the hotel not drinking just as a challenge, hiring the florist's assistant as a nanny, it just felt like dicking the audience around.
*holy poo poo Edgar was a dick
*the ending is just a little too neat with Paul and Lindsay getting back together too. I understand the journey the characters went on but it's a little too "give everyone a happy ending"

one more edit:
Stephen Falk did a post-mortem and while I love No Children and the Mountain Goats and the montage was awesome, he mentioned that they also thought about "True Love Will Find You In The End" and honestly that might have been an even better pick. I just associate No Children with Moral Orel so much and don't think you can do better by that song than Orel did.

I agree with the vast majority of that, but I still think the finale was near-perfect (not sure putting that first flash-forward where it was worked as well as Falk wanted it to). I loving loved the Last Dick song and Ben Folds’ moments and the running gag of Edgar reacting to the podcast, while the emotional moments, especially the final choice they came to and the final scene, were absolutely the best choices for the show. That final flash-forward shot of Gretchen was perfect too. Extremely dark to have that after the rest of the montage, and extremely fitting for YTW.

It’s weird I shed a couple tears around the middle and then remained stoic until the very, very end, and then the look they gave to each other while stealing each others’ food completely opened the floodgates and I was a total mess.

I love this show so, so loving much. Definitely one of the best of this decade. Even season 4, which is the only season I don’t completely love, has so many great moments. I’ll really miss this one, and I can’t wait to see what Falk does next.

In hindsight, watching the final episode of a show that wants to punch me in the gut and then kick me in the balls before I go to work was probably not the best call

But it worked out because that was really pleasant and nice and yeah, a little too neat, but the show was good and I'm going to miss it and gosh we had a lot of fun along the way didn't we?

I can definitely understand what he did, especially with him admitting why in the flash forward. He was in a very codependent relationship with Jimmy and as much as he’s grown since the start of the show he needed to end that relationship before he could grow any further.

I wish they hadn't done the misleading flashforwards; they didn't contribute much and felt like a pointless tease.

Still, what a great ending. I was enjoying it overall, but when No Children started playing I felt the gut punch of how emotional of an ending it was. YATW was one of my favorite series and I'm missing it already; glad they ended on such a high note.

God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. Who will wipe this blood off us? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we need to invent?

super glad they gave them a season they knew would be their final one so falk and co could wrap it up how they wanted. great series

the finale was the best ep of one of the best series i ever watched

i keep getting “no children” stuck in my head and have to keep myself from crying. like when it started in the show i loving lost it bc that song wrecks me anyway

if aya cash doesn’t become a big deal i will assume it is bc she chose not to do so (ditto the rest of the cast but particularly her)

is the "is a nazi" reveal secret in the books, because with a name like Stormfront you ain't hiding poo poo.

fakeedit: I looked it up and apparently Stormfront the website is older than i thought and isn't named directly after a nazi word/term so maybe this hero was actually named after the website back when it was just a dark unknown corner of the internet instead of the progenitor of all of the white supremacists around today
