I see some of this content in pics thread or the cyberpunk thread, and some other places, and I think it'd be cool to have 1 place to check out some cyber/retro/dark wave music. Also, I know there are people in Yospos making this music and using computers to do it!

For example who's this goon:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckQ0BOLnxvo

There are all kinds of sub genres here. Like check this one out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYW2AvL83jE

Or what about this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGVnxSS_h9Q

And this sounds totally different!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPensOF1Ugw

Anyway there's a bunch of really cool music in this category. Like check out this music video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be-YQmtPcik

Some of these artists stream on twitch too, and I think it'd be cool to talk about those. You can learn a ton about some of the complex software that's used to make this music by watching them produce music. If you liked that music video above maybe you could check out that artists twitch as an example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOwC1vYjXtU

Anyway, let me known if this thread is good, or bad. I'll listen to any music that gets posted here.

The jupiter 8 is so cool. Just visually it's incredible. I have a jd-xi that has a lot of the sounds but man oh man to have an extra $15,000 or whatever to get the real deal.

For interesting syth stuff I also love Junkie XL. He's artist behind the film score for Dead Pool and Mad Max:

I listened to both those and bought the album 'It's Alright Between Us as It Is'. Listening to new music and drinking some coffee is the best way to spend a sunday.

let us assume i'm a complete loving moron (this is a very safe assumption to make) and id like to make bleepbloop nerd music, but have basically gently caress all for music experience. i took piano lessons briefly when i was in, uh, 6th grade? i've pretty much forgotten all that

where in the hell do you start? maybe pick up some other instrument first because sitting down to a DAW and some VSTs or whatever feels like getting everything and the kitchen sink thrown at you at once. idk, advice?

Watch the Tom Hulkenberg / Junkie XL introduction to modular synthesis and then hold onto your wallet as tight as you can.

xpost from the pics thread

Back when I did desktop support at the university I carried a headphone jack in my pocket to every job because I was constantly going through the XP installer and i friggen HATED that song plus it would blast super loud and on some laptops there was nothing you could do to mute it.

Also, I had the windows XP key we used memorized.

ableton doesn’t actually have a “looping” function does it? where it continually adds to itself? I tried it and had to record to different columns for each one then play back at same time..?

I fear I am approaching this with incompatible methods, although perhaps that just means:

some songs will be looper based (and so drum machine can only contribute sounds not act as ryhtym),

or use the novation circuit to drive the rhythm, and just play with it and over top of it, and not use loop pedal,

unless I feed it into ableton (now I require a laptop) because i’m confident te circuit with midi can control (or be controlled) midi wise for tempo, and try to work out how to get ableton working with loops etc

i’m an idiot and when got kontrol as usb sound interface and only got the one input, should have gotten more 🥺:qq:
