Remember that most of the Academy are old farts so they probably don't even bother watching the animated films and just go "eh Pixar is usually best film in this category so I'll just vote for them"

Isn't Best Animated voted on by people who are in animation?

Has anybody seen Mirai? Being the first non-Ghibli anime to be nominated seems notable.

Gentle reminder that there have been five women nominated for Best Director, ever, which is loving nuts.

Although that's really just a symptom of the bigger issue of women not having the opportunity to direct many movies to begin with.

I guess the pick might make sense if it turns out they only shot like 70% of the movie and he created the rest of it with B-roll

Based on his performance as Cypher in Alita, he’s a shoe in for the 3-peat

I know you're joking but his acting in his final scene was fantastic, it takes a lot to give a performance with your face that's totally different from your body

It's not best supporting worthy but it's still some drat good acting.

I just couldn't get past how much they made him look like Blade

Is anyone on earth wishing there was a host? Things seem to be moving along a lot faster without one. I don't really even see what the added value is.

I am hyped for The Lion King.

One of those things where having watched the cartoon as a kid and now getting to watch this one with my son, even the trailer makes me tear up.

Can you not watch the old one with your son

I know people always say this, but this has gotta be the worst Academy Awards of recent memory. Bad nominees, worst possible winners for nearly every important category, just awful all around. Hopefully all the old white dudes who vote on this crap will die soon.

Doesn't help that it wasn't an especially great year of movies to begin with. Anyway, at least the show itself was pretty strong.

Also since I don't have any better place to drop this take, Chi-Raq was better than BlacKKKlansman

Basically the film needed a better editor.

Congratulations, you've successfully summarized Spike Lee's career.

Although at the same time, the shagginess and digressive nature of his movies is kind of what's most endearing about them.
