I've moved away from being competitive in stuff like FPS but just replaced it with fighting games. When Warcraft 3 remastered comes out we will see if I can still keep up in RTS. Also I've spent more and more time playing old stuff - I've considered posting about this but there's a weird, minor pressure I often feel when playing new games that doesn't happen when I'm playing old ones. I thought at first it was just familiarity/comfort but this also applies to old games I've never played.

to be fair I think there is probably still lots of space to do cool stuff with battle royales, but they'd have to be made by someone not afraid to move more than a step away from PUBG/Fortnite

I think I prefer Origins but it's mostly centered around stuff like 'how the moon hits the desert' so I think Odyssey might be a better bet just because they refined the gameplay a little bit more. Edit: Nioh is a stronger game than both though imo

I probably played most every one that had any kind of players. Aside from the specialists (which at the time I defended as being strictly superior to action half life) my other favorites were Science and Industry and Natural Selection. And Battle of the Millennium though that was usually less of a real game and more several people swinging around as spider Man while one dude charged a spirit bomb at the top of the map and another just bitched about how much Megaman sucked.

I'm also excited for WoW classic but just because I'm jackass who wants to see people immediately bounce off when they get exactly what they asked for. My feeling about modern Blizzard (especially with how they're handling WoW) is that they take a large devoted playerbase as a given and start right in with the money grubbing. They're not really wrong, either.
