In any event, their party is still right wing, though perhaps a tad less likely to bend over backwards to accommodate religious zionist settlers, the ultra orthodox parties and literal ethnic cleansing advocates. The real major question in this election is whether Meretz and the Arab parties manage to pass the threshold or not, especially now that the Joint Arab List has fallen apart due to infighting. If not, we're even more screwed than before, even if Gantz beats Bibi, because the only parties in the Knesset will be various flavors of right-wing.

The opposition is either the enemy Arabs, regardless of whether they are communists, or neoliberals It also has a bit of a Bosnian clusterfuck to it because everything is understood in terms of winner takes all national strength within the representative system.

This led to a drastic drop in the liberal elites' support at the exact time when Likud was already on the rise, creating a power vacuum that Bibi was happy to fill and use as an opportunity to establish his party's long-term dominance by giving far-right groups government backing and defunding entities critical of the right.

to be clear, the center-left party is Labor, right? reminds me of how the Socialists in Hungary had that audio leaked of the prime minister saying that they lied about everything, which led to Orban getting a supermajority and rigging the system that way

Peres on the behast of washington did shock therapy on the kibbutz system in the 80s and tried to turn the whole area into a neolib free trade hellzone with the disembowlment of the kibbutz system there was no longer a united support base outside of city liberals then they lost the lower middle classes to Likud by going neoliberal basically they have no real electorate and the nationalists have a dedicated ideological base and much of the population that rejects neoliberal reforms
