Saint Louis FC: despite being a city with a great soccer tradition stretching back more than a century, MLS still wants to give Nashville and Austin a team ahead of us because they, like many stupid people, think St Louis combines the crime of Johannesburg today with the racial politics of Jo'burg in the '70s, and those cities have regular trend pieces written about them in the NYT. we're managed by Tony Pulis' kid, who sadly does not wear a baseball cap and tracksuit on the bench. he did get us actual, quantifiable Results though, getting STLFC to the playoffs for the first time last season. we've switched conferences for the fourth time this year, back to the East--but it means we get regular games against Louisville, Indy Eleven, and Nashville, and gently caress them. our supporters group is called "The Louligans" and are annoying as gently caress (no swearing, weird references to chupacabras, capos, all that bullshit) though they do put on a good tailgate. our home stadium is a 5,000 seat bandbox surrounded by industrial parks by the old Chrysler plant in Fenton, which provides the fun pre-match experience of drinking in the parking lot of a heavy-equipment retailer, running to the Road Ranger outside SP for more beer, and rinse and repeat. nobody knows whether we'll actually be good this year, because like I said above we're managed by a Pulis.

STL beat Indy, 2-1. Crowd was down because it was pelting rain up until maybe 30 minutes before kickoff, and with Soccer Park having flooded multiple times in the past (it's right by the Meramec River) people were rightfully a bit wary of heading to Fenton. Still a good game from what I saw, they converted the scrappy-and-crappy stuff which at this level some teams just don't do.

STLFC drew Chicago Fire. Am I right in thinking they’re going to beat an MLS team with ease?

STLFC's season in a nutshell: early summer: hey, this team's good for once! and we had a good Open Cup run! midsummer: loving hell why did we hire a loving Pulis to coach this loving team, wasting our time with that stupid Open Cup late summer/fall: five straight wins? a demolition of Red Bulls II? between this and the Cards, maybe all of St Louis had a Stanley Cup hangover, not just your average Joe

STLFC decided to finally get rid of Pulis Jr. and signed Steve Trittschuh, because they actually saw a dip in attendance this year and are going to try and not be so drat mediocre. (oh who are we kidding, they will finish delightfully mid-table once again, and people will still come and pay too much money to see this team and "enjoy" the Louligans' "antics")
