Exploration is ill-advised.
Greg Stafford, the creator of King Arthur Pendragon, also passed away recently.

It's kinda funny to read since the writer is a bit of a grognard clearly has very specific ideas about how the game is to be played, but also open to providing plenty of other options if you REALLY have to.

The whole thing definitely simulates well how knights are total drama queens and there's a game mechanic for having a breakdown and running off nude into the woods. Also, apiaries are overpowered.

Is 5th edition also heresy? Tabletop edition wars make me wary because people love to complain about things that are different and sensible because they have Stockholm Syndrome.

I have only the loosest knowledge of arthurian stuff from trashy tv shows. Did Lancelot cuck Arthur? That's always been my impression. Arthur is always portrayed as the lead protagonist in the things I've seen, but I'm kind of unclear on Lancelot's role. I'm getting a sort of anime friend/rival vibe. Like the guy naruto is gay for, or riku from kingdom hearts. Or for a slightly less shameful reference, Judas as portrayed in Jesus Christ Superstar.

Came for the Pick-notes, stayed for the barely constrained knightly man love and pointlessly flowery descriptions.

Galehaut sent out two of his knights, the best two knights in the land, aside from three of his other knights who are the best in the land.

Gawain and sidekick destroy them in many more words.

The French stuff really is a massive influence on Arthurian lore in general, and is probably the biggest contributor to the modern 'perception' of King Arthur and his knights.

"King Arthur" is just an english fanciful reinterpretation of Charlemagne. he even had a magic sword and his 12 paladins just like Arthur.

I don't know if they paint him as doing it routinely, but the Lancelot-Grail cycle and later mention that it's what serves as his downfall. He wants to bang his teenage student, and she ends up trapping him in a rock/tree/magic forest. I think she ends up taking over as Arthur's wizardly confidante

A lot of this stuff is a conglomeration of different legends interacting, but yes, essentially. Lancelot kinda sorta cucks Arthur, but it's important to mention that most interpretations have Arthur barely tolerating to outright hating Guinevere, and them never even consummating their marriage is a plot point in some translations.

For what Lancelot is functionally, Arthur is a King and Lancelot is a knight. This sounds pithy, but this makes sense when you hash out their roles; Lancelot is a moron who can't lead anything at all but is just a wrecking ball at murdering, Arthur doesn't really do much stabbing but is good at leading.

The French one is also known as the "Lancelot-Grail" and Lancelot is the principal character throughout a huge part of it. He does sleep with Guinevere but Arthur has done so much loving poo poo at that point, and cares about her so little, that frankly it doesn't come off that bad.

I guess what bothers me is that all of the characters are very silly in a try-hard sort of way and it comes off as very cutesy to me. And all of the “clever” anachronisms are annoying. Yeah we get it, Merlin ages backwards.

To be fair he's essentially right, God just really loving likes Lancelot for completely unexplained reasons which mean it's literally impossible for him to lose

Like he's the only knight I can think of offhand who fought often and never lost, because it's written into fate that he has to win every fight he's in
