I Failed At Anime 2022

It's been 11 years since DMC4 and Devil May Cry is back! Devil May Cry is the fifth entry in Capcom's premiere hack 'n slash series and Hideaki Itsuno is back at the helm after the 2013 reboot was such a disaster. Taking place after DMC2, Dante's been gone for years and Nero's been passed down the Devil May Cry business. Everything's been going as normal until a mysterious stranger shows up at Nero's door and steals the Devil Bringer from him. Demons begin to attack Redgrave City soon and Nero's partner, Nico Goldstein, builds him a new mechanical arm to kick demon rear end with and find the guy who stole his arm. Around the same time this is happening, Dante has returned and is hired upon his return by a mysterious man named V who needs Dante to figured out what's going on with the demon attacks happening world wide. Nero, Dante, and V all team up together to save the world for what is claimed to be the end of the Sons of Sparda Saga in Devil May Cry.

Release date is scheduled for March 8th, 2019 worldwide across the PS4, Xbox One, and Steam.

Gameplay

Devil May Cry 5 is a third-person character action game. In it you will play as three separate characters: Nero, Dante, and The Mysterious V. You will navigate linear stages, fight enemies, and make it to the end of the stage and are ranked based on your performance, If you do well you will receive extra rewards like more red orbs. Every character is different in their own way and will play through their own specific stages. Nero is a very basic character with a sword button, a gun button, and the new devil breaker mechanic. The Devil Breaker makes Nero a bit more diverse than he was in DMC4, so he's slightly more complicated, but still an easy character to start with. He will remain the same as he starts with the exception of any abilities you unlock for him with red orbs. On top of his methods of attack, he has the exceed mechanic where he can rev his sword to do extra damage and add momentum to some of his sword attacks. Next is Dante, the series' main character. Dante is a significantly more complex character to play than Nero. Dante has a sword button, a gun button, and a style button. The style button will change utility depending on what style you have selected for Dante. Dante's weapon loadout can also change as he will have multiple Devil Arms and Guns. He is an incredibly dynamic character that requires a strong understanding of DMC to play effectively and if you are new to the series he is going to probably be difficult to get a hold of. V is a new character entirely for DMC5 and is meant to be played at a somewhat slower pace than Nero and Dante. He seems to be somewhere between Nero and Dante on the complexity scale but time will tell on that. V fights with familiars who attack for him and you control them alongside V. He also must deal the finishing blows on enemies meaning you will be doing the bevy of his damage with the familiars and swooping in to make the kill, but V does do enough damage to make it worth fighting alongside them. I will talk more about every character's personal mechanics in the characters section.

Aside from the characters, there are universal mechanics. Every character can jump, every character has a dodge roll which requires you to be locked on to the enemy and hit jump while holding left or right to do, and two of the three characters have a known Devil Trigger. Devil Trigger is the second bar below your health that fills as you hit, dodge well, and taunt enemies. When the DT meter reaches the required amount you can hit the Devil Trigger button to enter an empowered state that changes depending on the character. It is unknown right now if Nero has a devil trigger in this game since his DT in 4 was dependent on him having his arm that he no longer has. It has not been revealed in any official pre release material whether or not he does, so if it is found out it should probably be considered a spoiler and tagged. He could gain one over the game since Dante did in 3 and Nero himself did in 4, but we don't know for sure. Dante and V both have devil triggers that I will describe on their respective character sections.

This game also features an upgrading system as well. Whenever it is available for you to do so, you can call Nico on the phone and have the DMC Van show up and she'll sell you upgrades and other various items you may need. You can purchase abilities with red orbs that are gained in a multitude of ways or you can buy red orbs with real money if you're feeling particularly lazy and have money to burn. The general amount of orbs gained seems to be in line with how the series has provided them (IE: You get a lot through playing the game) so I doubt you will ever need to touch your wallet, but the option is there. There is also a taunting system, where your character has multiple taunts that change as your style ranking increases. You increase your style ranking by fighting well and diversifying your attacks well. The more stylish and flashy you are, the more your style rank will increase. Therr are a few ingame benefits to style ranking but they're pretty specific. You mostly just get more points and get to stroke your ego a little as the character you're playing has fun with the enemies. There are benefits to taunting like gaining DT meter and Nero has an air taunt that basically acts as a jump, but overall taunting is a mechanic that is there to show off and have fun.

Changes in DMC5
-There are no longer fixed camera angles. The camera now focuses entirely on your character and you have complete control over it. The camera also has dynamic angles that will happen during specific attacks or when you do the final kill. The camera will also pull back in some big set piece moments.
-Running overall has a lot more control over it. Everyone by default has sprint, it activates quickly, and turning is very smooth.
-Nero's Buster mechanic is replaced with the Devil Breaker mechanic. However, one of his arms is a buster based one meaning it's still there in some capacity.
-Red Queen can now be charged while running
-Dodge feels like it is more invincible than it used to be and has different animations depending on which direction and what you are doing when you do it.
-You are always facing whatever it is you are locked on to and jumping trajectories have been changed to be more reliable as a method of dodging and following up on attacks especially air hike. It also seems like enemy step hitbox is much more forgiving.
-Environment Destruction is a thing to an extent. While you cannot destroy the entire environment of course, certain areas have interactions in them where the stage can be destroyed or messed with to an extent as shown in the Goliath boss fight when Nero tosses him into a building in the background.
-There are new taunts for everyone and Nero has an air taunt. It is unknown if V and Dante do, though.
-Exceed System is mostly the same, however Nero no longer eats the whole bar off of one attack. You can press the attack button multiple times to feed it more bars, otherwise it will only use one bar of exceed. Timing on EX Act also has been increased to be significantly more generous and I'd assume the same of MAX Act.
-Nero's split command has changed from Forward+Sword Attack to Back+Sword Attack. In its place is a new move that has Nero doing a dive bomb esque attack.
-Blue Rose is slower, but shots pack more of a punch than they used to. The charge mechanic as a whole has been reworked as well. You still charge, but now when you charge it fills up a bullet meter below the health bar. These are your charged shots and you can fire them whenever you want to. You no longer need to hold down the button until level, you can fire them as you please. However the charge shot will always fire the first shot after you finish charging if you are able. You can only not do this if you do an attack and let go of the button during certain frames where Nero couldn't possibly shoot from.
-Dynamic Music is now a thing. As your rank increases so will the tempo of the music and should you hit S Rank the chorus will kick in full effect as you are kicking demon rear end. There is also an announcer when you reach certain ranks like in the reboot, this can be turned off if you want in the options.
-Customizable music is also a new feature. If you do not care for the music currently on, you can go to the options and change the character's music. As far as we know the music is all only downloadable, but maybe there is some already in the game. Also, we don't know if the other music has been fit to the dynamic music system either.
-As Dante, he is now able to select up to 4 Devil Arms and Guns to bring into battle with him.
-Gunslinger Style automatically charges Dante's guns without needing to hold the button.
-A slew of new devil arms and guns as per every DMC title.
-This technically isn't new, but it bears mentioning for those who may have not touched the Special Edition of DMC4 or missed this feature entirely. Red Orbs are purchasable through microtransactions on the respective platform's storefronts. Please discuss this with some dignity and civility in the thread as I know how hot a topic microtransactions in full priced games tend to be.
-Capcom hired a guy who was accused of sexual abuse towards a minor to sing Dante's theme in this game. After the reveal of the theme, everyone yelled at them about this and the vocals of it have now changed. This is a change exclusively within DMC5, but it's worth mentioning.

If there is anything in this insane list of changes I forgot, please inform me and I will add it.

Playable characters

Nero
Weapons: Red Queen, Blue Rose, Devil Breaker
Unique System: Devil Breakers
Devil Trigger: Unknown
Voiced by: Johnny Yong Bosch
Theme: Devil Trigger

The main character of DMC4 has returned as the main character of DMC5. After DMC4 Nero got a haircut, chilled out significantly, got a place with his girlfriend, and took up Dante's job in his absence. Everything looked to be going pretty smooth until some dude showed up at his door and stole his demonic arm from him. Understandably pissed, Nero's on the hunt for this guy while handling the hordes of demons who have appeared in Redgrave City with Nico and a new kickass robot arm at his side.

Devil Breaker System
Nero's Devil Bringer from DMC4 is gone, now replaced with his new robotic arm. The new arm is a brand new mechanic that act as mini-styles for Nero. While moving throughout stages Nero can find devil breakers just lying around and should he pick them up they instantly equip as his new arm. Every Devil Breaker is unique and different from the last in both design and utility. In order to do attack with the Devil Breaker, Nero cannot be locked onto an enemy otherwise you will use Snatch instead. With this though comes downsides as the devil breakers are not permanent. If Nero is hit while attacking or charging an attack with the devil breaker it will be destroyed and he will have to find a new arm before he is able to use any more devil breaker attacks. It does come with several different new mechanics though. Break Away is a burst mechanic for Nero. While being hit or about to be hit, if the player hits the Break Away button Nero will destroy his own arm and cause an explosion that throws both the enemy and himself away from each other. This does activate as an explosion so it can hit multiple enemies and you can use it even as a way to extend combos or move Nero if you so wish. The other mechanic of the Devil Breaker is Break Age, a super attack. While holding down the devil breaker button, Nero can charge up an attack. Whenever the arm bursts with energy if the button is released Nero will perform an extremely powerful attack with the Devil Breaker. it comes at a cost though as after you use it the arm will be destroyed. The mechanics, attacks, and Break Ages of each Devil Breaker is different depending on the ones you are using and there are a lot.

Overture: A DB that fires fires electricity in front of Nero when used. The attack animation is context sensitive so depending on where the enemy you are facing is when you perform it Nero will do a forward thrust, uppercut, or ground slam. Overture's Break Age is Exploder, an attack where once charge Nero will punch the enemy with Overture and leave a sticky bomb that detonates after a period of time or when fired at with a projectile or other attacks. Multiple bombs can be placed at once.
Gerbera: A DB that launches shockwaves in front of Nero. If done while standing still Nero will simply put his hand out and shoot enemies away from him, however when done while holding a direction Nero can vault himself in that direction both on the ground and in mid air and both of these can still hit enemies. Gerbera has two Break Ages, Stamen Ray and Petal Ray. Stamen Ray is done on the ground and when activated Nero will fire out a large beam of energy that can be aimed around the battlefield. Petal Ray is done in the air and when used Nero fires out multiple thin lasers that ricochet off of the environment. This can be quite damaging in enclosed spaces or used directly in front of the enemy.
Punch Line: A DB with rocket power that constantly hits the enemy it is aimed towards. If you hold the DB button when it returns to you, you are able to to ride the rocket arm and attack with it. This has a time limit and should you stay on it too long it will self-destruct, but it lasts longer the higher your style gauge is. Punch Line's Break Age is Boost Knuckle, a rocket powered haymaker that floors any enemy it scores a clean hit on, even bosses.
Buster Arm: Nero's Buster mechanic from DMC4 returns in the form of this Devil Breaker. When hitting an enemy with this a unique animation is performed depending on the enemy. If Nero is hit while the animation is being performed though the arm will shatter. The Buster Arm's Break Age is Super Buster, it is basically the same as the DT powered buster from DMC4 where a more powerful buster animation is done instead of the normal one. Nero cannot be hit out of whatever animation he's in when this is used.
Ragtime: A time-based DB that can slow down time in the area where it is aimed at. The Break Age is able to slow down time in the entire area when used.
Tomboy: Enhances the Blue Rose allowing Nero to charge and release its shots firing in huge distances and it also enhances the Red Queen allowing Nero to perform stronger and new actions with the sword.
Helter Skelter: Spinning blades that can be used to chop up enemies.
Rawhide: A Razor Whip
Mega Buster: Yes, the loving Mega Buster from Megaman. It does exactly what it does in Megaman and gives Nero unique animations on his rolls and jumps.
Sweet Surrender: Nico made Nero a sex toy for his girlfriend that he can use to heal himself.
Pasta Breaker:
Monkey Business: This image says everything I can possibly say about this (Note: This is apparently DLC exclusive to JP Amazon, who knows if everyone else will get it)

You can tell Capcom had a lot of fun making more of these dumbass arms.

Dante
Weapons: Rebellion, Ebony & Ivory, Various Devil Arms and Other Guns
Unique Systems: Styles and Weapon Switching
Devil Trigger: Increased damage, healing over time, super armor, and DT Specific moves on some devil arms. Desperation Devil Trigger from DMC2 also seems to make a return, but it remains to be seen if it is in cutscenes only or gameplay.
Voiced by: Reuben Langdon
Theme: Subhuman

Everyone's favorite pizza eating uncle is back after his ride to hell in DMC2. The face of the series and main character of DMCs 1-3 getting back to his old work of taking down demons after being informed by his agent, Morrison, that a man has a job for him. He is met by The Mysterious V, being hired to deal with demon invasion that is hitting the entire world. Dante decides that fighting demons to get paid is better than not being able to poo poo in his own toilet, so he of course gets right to work.

Styles and Devil Arms
The Style system returns and seems entirely unchanged from DMC4, so I will give a basic description of every style that has been confirmed. The main focus of this part is going to be all of Dantes new devil arms and guns we've gotten a look at in promo material. Anyways, to actually describe what the style system is. It is a mechanic of Dante's that he is able to diversify his abilities depending on the mode he is. As was the case in DMC4, all four of Dante's styles are useable and can be switched to using the D-Pad. Dante's Styles are as follows:

Sword Master: A Style that focuses on Dante's Devil Arms. All of Dantes Devil Arms gain new moves and abilities specific to this mode. While you'd switch to a weapon and use the main attack button to perform them, Sword Master can expand the moveset even more vastly to give you a different of things to do with them.
Gunslinger: What Sword Master does to Devil Arms, this does to Guns. It opens up a slew of new abilities for Dante's ranged weapons and even gives passive buffs to them like the automatic charging to enhance their overall damage. With Gunslinger Dante goes from shooting up his enemies to dancing above his enemies while hailing down a rain of bullets or doing a Stinger with a shotgun.
Trickster: A movement-based style that gives Dante several dashes and even a teleport. This is mostly used to close distance on the enemy, but it allows for defensive maneuvering too aside from the dodge roll.
Royalguard: Dante's defensive style returns as well. Royalguard is a style that gives Dante a guard mechanic. Dante can reduce incoming damage if he is holding his guard and even negate damage entirely if done with perfect timing, but while being damaged he is able to build up meter for a mechanic exclusive to Royalguard, Rage. While in Royalguard style, Dante is able to release the damage done to him back at his opponent as damage and it increases with the more meter he has. DMC4 also had an ability known as Dreadnought which made Dante invincible for as long as he had Rage meter, but it is unknown if that is going to come back for DMC5.

Alongside his styles, Dante has a lot of weapons that he is able to switch on the fly. DMC5 brings a host of new and old devil arms and guns into the mix.

Rebellion: Dante's trusty old sword returns, but not for long.
Sparda: The Sword of Sparda, Dante's father. After Rebellion is shattered, Dante recovers this sword to use as his main sword for the remainder of the game.
Cavaliere: Armored devil arm that is also a motorcycle. Dante is able to ride it into battle and perform donuts and wheelies to fight enemies with it and transform it into twin buzzsaws for some attacks.
Balrog: A set of flame gauntlets and grieves that Dante uses for hand to hand combat. Balrog is the first of its kind to feature two separate fighting modes: Kick Mode and Blow Mode. With Blow Mode Dante will focus more on boxing punches and let Dante do short dodges, while Kick Mode is of course more kick-based while also allowing for dance fighting. The Balrog features a special mode known as Ignition mode where if keeps punching opponents or dancing on them then he will gain more fire and his attacks will do more damage, remaining inactive with Balrog will cool the flames however.
Cerberus: Dante's nunchucks from DMC3 return, albeit with some alterations. Cerberus still retains its original ice-based fighting style, but it comes with two new forms now: a fire bo staff and lightning three-section staff.
Faust Hat: The hat of the cloaked enemies from DMC4. When Dante has this equipped he is able to weaponize his stock of red orbs and turn them into projectiles or even meteors. Dante is even able to use the hat to hold enemies in place and pose with them.
Ebony & Ivory: Dante's trusty pistols that have followed him through every game.
Coyote-A: It is the same shotgun Dante has been using, but the name is from 4 so it's technically a returning weapon from that.
Kalina Ann 2: The sequel to Kalina Ann. Lady's rocket launcher from 3, but now Dante is super powerful so he can use it midair.

These are the weapons we know about so far with Dante, anything else is either that variation of Cavaliere that is DLC or unknown.

The Mysterious V
Weapons: Summoned Familiars and Cane
Unique System: Familiars
Devil Trigger: Summons Nightmare, a colossal golem to fight for V
Voiced by: Unknown, but an IMDB listing had it as Lukas II for a time
b]Theme[/b]: Crimson Cloud

The titular 5, emphasis on the V. This man is a new character made for DMC5, nothing is known about him other than his name is The Mysterious V. He shows up out of the blue one day to hire Dante to deal with demon problem going on around the world, which is pretty suspicious because no one who has come to Dante in person in these games to hire him hasn't also tried to kill him. He summons demons to fight for him and they may seem... FAMILIAR to you, they are demons from DMC1. Who is V? Is he Vergil? Mundus? Adam Driver? Only time will tell, but god this dude is tattooed to hell.

Familiars
V is very unique to Devil May Cry as his main method of combat is through summoning demons to fight for him. The familiars will do the majority of damage to his enemies and he will come in to finish them off with his cane as his familiars are not able to kill other demons. V can manually control his them and even leave them to fight automatically but that will consume DT gauge. If the familiars take too much damage they will revert to a core form where they cannot attack or be summoned for a period of time, leaving V vulnerable. If V stands close to the familiars he can revive them faster. V also gains DT in a different way than Dante and Nero, through reading his book. If V reads his book he will build DT and the closer he is to his enemies the faster it will fill.

Griffon: The lead familiar and the one V can actually communicate with. Griffon's a smartass bird that likes to talk a lot of poo poo, but is willing to work with V to preserve both of their lives. Griffon flies overhead raining down electrical blasts and other long-ranged attacks and can even lift V to get him out of danger and reposition him.
Shadow: The shapeshifting dog that gets into the faces of its enemies and cuts them up. Only Griffon is able to communicate with it and Nightmare, but regardless it will follow V's commands. Shadow's thing is to jump into battle and transform into any manner of nasty weapons whether it be blades, needles or giant loving spikes. It is also able to move quickly and give V a lift.
Nightmare: The big hulking behemoth of giant laser beams. Nightmare is a very special familiar as he is only summonable through Devil Trigger. Once DT is activated, Nightmare will appear in some form whether it be bursting through a wall or falling out of the sky as a meteorite. Nightmare is enormous and hits poo poo really hard. The tradeoff for this is it is incredibly slow and eats your DT meter any time you attack with it. Nightmare has side benefits, as well. If Griffon or Shadow are in their core states and Nightmare is summoned, they are immediately revived. V can directly control Nightmare and while in this state, Nightmare is able to kill demons. Nightmare is also invincible, it cannot be damage and lasts as long as the DT meter does.

These are all of the known playable characters, if there are any more in the game they are being hidden as far as we know. Lady and Trish however do have in-game models that fight with Dante in certain sections, so it is possible future playable versions of them could be coming.

Demo
There is a demo that came out yesterday as of the posting of this thread for both the PS4 and Xbox One. You are only allowed to play as Nero in this demo, so if you are waiting I'd say use the demo to get a handling on Nero's new mechanics to prepare yourself for the game proper. This demo starts at the base moveset he'll be in on release and you can use red orbs in the demo to give him some new moves. Red Orbs transfer between playthroughs of the demo, so if you wanna see all of Neros moves then I'd recommend playing it a few times. The demo is comprised of three different sections where you fight multiple base-level enemies, a few fights off to the side with other base-level enemies, and a fight at the end with the boss, Goliath. You get access to three different devil breakers (Overture, Gerbera, and Punch Line), so have fun messing with all three of those. If you're to DMC, the demo will also be a decent way to familiarize yourself with at least Nero.

Special Editions, DLC, and other poo poo Capcom wants you to spend money on
There are multiple different versions of this game Capcom is selling and I want to make sure all of it is clear

If you preorder the game from some of the usual places like Amazon or Gamestop or digitally from the platform stores you are guaranteed a download for some in game stuff. Pre ordering the standard edition comes with the alternate palettes pictured above and some of them are references (Dante's is DINO from the Reboot, Nero's is the Order of the Sword Uniforms, Nico's is just a different color palette they liked during concept stages, Lady's is swapped colors, and Trish is Gloria from DMC4). Preordering any version of this game available on the PS Store will get you a unique theme of the game.

Deluxe Edition

$70 USD
Preordering this gets you the previously mentioned costumes and 100k red orbs. The ingame items you get for buying the drat thing are four devil breakers (Mega Buster, Pasta Breaker, Sweet Surrender, and Gebera GP-01), Dante's Cavaliere R, alternative voice tracks for the style rank announcer and title calls, behind the scenes live action cutscenes, and 3 tracks from every DMC game for the customizable music which will be listed below.

Music from DMC4: The Time Has Come (Nero Battle Theme), Lock & Load -Blackened Angel Mix- (Dante Battle Theme), Sworn Through Swords (Berial Boss Theme)

Collector's Edition

$150 USD
If you buy this, you get loving everything. You get all of the DLC in the other stuff, preorder and deluxe edition and you get a bunch of physical items too. You get an 8" replica of the DMC Van, a collector's box that resembles nico's toolbox that carries all of this, a pretty hefty looking artbook with notes from nico's workbench, a pin contained in a replica of V's book, an I Love Osaka bumper sticker, and an exclusive cloth print poster. That demo was entirely too short, but it's such a good taste of what's to come. Very impressed with how nice and stylish it manages to look even running on PS4 hardware. Extremely hype!

Can I reload without firing other than by getting the reload taunt or am I gonna have to do the classic assign charge shot to a shoulder button move

I told you so...
I had kind of a rough time my first few times through the demo, but after (finally) getting all the way through, I really think I'm going to like this game! It's REALLY hard for me to get used to the new input for Helm Breaker Split, but I'll get used to it eventually (and I think forward+triangle will eventually be a new move, which should help me break the habit). The timing on EX Act seems to be very similar to DMC4's because I'm already pretty good at it; I wish the demo included Max ACT so I could see exactly how well my timing translates.

Did anyone else think that the boss's difficulty is a bit out of whack compared to the regular enemies? Even on my first play through I don't think that I was hit more than twice and I kept wishing the demo was on a harder difficulty, but I died 4 times to Goliath before taking him down (and even then, only when I started noticing the green orbs in the arena).

The only thing I "dislike" is that (just like they advertised) you can't interrupt animations as easily as before and most of the time when I get hit it's because I got too greedy with an attack and couldn't dodge in time. I also think the game loads very often, but that could easily be because of the way the demo is structured (I know the loading screen when you enter the hotel is a skip and probably wouldn't be there in the full game).

The load times are part of the reason why I think this game is begging to be played from an SSD. Even those little breaks in the action will be instant on PC.

I actually think the game has good weight to it. Now that you have to commit to more attacks crowd control is more important than ever and that's exactly the department the Devil Breakers shine in

The boss was easily clowned by the classic “Demon (Robot) Grab -> Air Hike” combo while also firing charge shots. I remapped gun to L1, Break to Triangle and Melee to Square and that feels perfect for me.

I haven't played a DMC game for years and I'm not sure how to avoid damage in a game with apparently no dodge or block? Like the normal enemies are easy because they stagger to anything but I got walloped by the boss pretty hard, I guess it's just don't over extend and he seemed a lot less likely to hit you in the air.

There is a dodge roll that you'll need to make use of, there's just not a dedicated button like in most Platinum Games. You also can only do it while locked on and have to hit left or right while doing it so if you're used to having a dedicated dodge button, it's gonna take some getting used to. But I play DMC4 yearly so the dodge roll in this game feels so much nicer in comparison to how it is in every other DMC game.

Jump also feels like it can be utilized more to avoid things more consistently now as well, but you still gotta pay attention.

It's also hard to get used to not having Turbo Mode turned on.

I think this more than anything else has been the biggest difficulty adjusting to in the demo. I so used to turbo mode speed now, that I think it was really difficult adjusting to all of the Nero stuff I knew old and new at a lowered speed. I'm really hoping they have a turbo mode in the full version.

The demo is definitely on an easy difficulty given how inactive the demons are, that being said the Xbox One demo from before this one had a million devil breakers in multiple areas and they're much more scarce in this one, so maybe it is the normal difficulty on this one and the basic enemies are just less aggressive in general. Goliath is definitely kind of a fucker when you're first fighting him, but I can't say I find him too difficult since he has insanely telegraphed attacks and so long you don't overcommit to things while whacking at him, he shouldn't be too tough to take down. He feels like a very solid first boss of the game if he does end up being that. That being said that motherfucker actually does have some deceptive range to his punches and still catches me off guard with them even though I can run him with no damage and know how to eat like half of his life as soon as the second phase starts.

i haven't played the demo of this and it's been a grip since i've played 4 so i may be misremembering but also just jumping straight up has some iframes too so it can be used as a dodge in a pinch

Yeah, just get in the mindset that in DMC, jumping is dodging.

I agree that he's not too hard, especially for a DMC boss, but I was still surprised because the regular enemies died very quickly and dealt very little damage, something similar to the Easy difficulty (which would also work with the inclusion of the Automatic option in the demo), but Goliath can take a pretty good beating and deals a normal amount of damage. Honestly, I'm much rather the regular enemies got a little boost than Goliath being nerfed in the demo.

I'm also probably partly responsible because I really don't use the Breaker enough (because the Buster only worked on the bosses when they were stunned in DMC4).

Can I reload without firing other than by getting the reload taunt or am I gonna have to do the classic assign charge shot to a shoulder button move

there are moves you can't cancel with gunshot immediately, so do those.
the easiest is snatch (lockon+breaker/buster), but stuff like overture's regular breaker move works too

also theres a fuckton of spoiler vids out now bc of the preview thing and one of the big things that got mentioned was that someone found a hidden weapon in dante's 2nd level (m11) just lying around
meaning that dante is probably gonna have a FUCKTON of weps, esp. given the spoiler bosses that he can most likely fight/refight to get

Yeah, straight up jumping has i-frames as well, just less than sideways rolling so the timing is more precise.

Yeah assuming nothing has changed you have iframes the entire way up during a neutral jump. That alone is enough of a dodge for most attacks in these games

first of all bravo on that godlike OP

I loved this demo, between this and RE2 it feels like Capcom is all in and is creating the zenith culmination of their big titles. Much like MHWorld and RE2 being high benchmarks for each of their respective series, I feel like DMCV is already set to be the best of DMC especially with all the great changes to the feel of fighting, camera control, and spacious areas to fight.

One thing tho, is Exceed unlocked by default in the demo? I feel like the instructions that pop up while you play didn't point out Exceed on the controller which felt odd.

Also jumps have iframes in them, so jumping up is exactly the same as rolling but vertical (assuming DMC5 still works the same way).

Do whichever one you want.’ So I thought, alright, y’know what… let’s do DMC5. So we did that.”

Personally, I think I wanted DMC5 about as much as Dragon's Dogma 2 so I'm just glad that we got one of them.
Hopefully they'll make DD2 afterwards.
