One Last Expedition

Before heading off, Guar squad is gonna go on an adventure of redundancy. Remember that I had to refresh dead NPCs to get Agnu, so the cannibal leaders are back, the city heroes are back and the dust bandit king is still kicking.

While bopping the cannibals I notice a new entry on their bounty list, living world lets us turn in bounties to the cannibal hunters.

As I attack the cannibal capital a bunch of shrieking bandits came running through. Remember those guys? Feels like a lifetime.

As we go to turn in the bounty, some western hive traders call out.

: ... Unless you have Hive lantern with you. We have one you can have if you want to go there. Not free though.

: Tell me more about this lantern...

: Our Queen enchants the Lanterns of Radiance to clear the mists. All hive merchants use them to travel north, I promise our lantern will keep you safe, out of the mist. If not, we give you a refund. Our promise to you.

: Okay, how much?

: 2,500 Cats. This is a good price, human. You can't put a price on safety.

: Okay I'll take it.

: You won't regret it, no-hive!

We fear no mists, but how can we decline a souvenir?

We find Robun laying about at the Cannibal Hunter HQ, we can now turn in bounties to him.

: Here, take him!

After turning in both the grand wizard and meat master, along with the nearby chiefs, we are now allied with them. Though its kinda too late to benefit off it but.

Not only that, but all the places the cannibals were in charge of are now owned by Deadcat. Sadly no way to get Deadcat to ally with us despite giving them control of the northern area.

With all that done, congrats to Dead Meat who is given the Meito Paladin's Cross from the Phoenix. I have learned we have a severe lack of hacker users which... well...

Oh hey was waiting for this. After taking out the Bugmaster this raid happens.

: Come out, come out, slayer! I've waited a long time for this moment... Now that the Bugmaster is gone, it is you who will lead us to gateway. And you're better live up to your reputation! Today is a good day to die warriors!

These chaps are the Berserkers, might have seen them hanging around the desert.

The leader is Ghost, I would have more about him but he is currently laying on the floor with -20 to his chest. He had some respectable stats in the 60s but his weapon wasn't great and his only armor was an armored skirt. RIP the Berserker faction.

I bring his body to the Shek and get this dialogue

: An exile is lost, forever a ghost searching for the other side... But you gave him his send off. Glory to you, kin.

Reminder that no one in Goontang has ever murdered someone.

I do some running around to find some things before we move on. First I'll check out this crater area in the southwest.

Along the way I see this

: Well now that the Phoenix is gone, maybe I can actually take a drat walk in the northern plains? God-loving greenlanders, hoggin' all the grassland. Good riddance to 'im.

Welcome to the crater. There are a handful of workshops and labs around but they're mostly empty.

What is neat is that the spires around the area have this almost crystal like layer to them.

: This area has certainly changed.

Remember last update where I said I was gonna check out all those ruins after bugmaster, but didn't cause everyone was all hosed up and missing limbs? I did it this time, all of those ruins were libraries. This is the nicest looking chunk of disaster scenery.

Unfortunately they're covered in red spiders, and I'm only running 4 people deep so its time to head back to base.

Alright, Don Jo, Ardryn, SquirrelGrip, Arkanumizilong and Velo are the lucky winners of the farewell package.

Each of you get a bag!

: What the

: gently caress is

: inside of

: these loving

: bags

: Don't worry too much...

: C'mon my mom can move faster then you, and she is dead!

Out of these 5, Arkanumzilong had the lowest strength. Lets keep this number in mind.

: Next up, pick any body of your choosing.

: You're joking

Oooh weee oooh, yooooooh

And we'll be hiking all the way to Boatmurdered. So yeah I was running around ruins trying to find generator cores, weighing 20kg a pop. However the ruins just weren't coughing up many so I decided on iron ore, 9kg each. Interestingly, items in a bag are normally reduced in weight, but if the bag is in your inventory rather then on your back, it gets the full weight.

After a point I bring Average Lettuce and Rockapolis brought in. Both so they can blow up anything that attacks us, and to help haul all this poo poo back to base. I was originally gonna try and get a backpack and cores for everyone and come in one giant group... but I'd be needing something like 47 sets and gently caress that.

And let me tell you, the biggest pain in the rear end of our slow, dragging trek across the world? Hungry bandits, loving everywhere. I must've killed thousands of these chuckle fucks.

50 hungry bandits vs 2 bulls

Place your bets!

And Average Lettuce just killed like 6 bandits in one glorious charge by doing 225 damage to each one.

And those that simply had their limbs flung off, well they do make some beautiful art, don't they?

At Retribution there was a scrawny cannibal raid. It was mesmerizing seeing them flow not unlike a river through all the rusted, metal crap strewn about.

Now remember when I said we were heading to Boatmurdered? Yeah gently caress that, Flats Lagoon is good enough. While people wait here they wont risk activating raids and the NPCs will have food we can buy while waiting.

Now, I throw one of the bags into Lela's inventory to build up strength while coming back. Irritatingly, I can't just throw the bags onto the bulls. I gotta empty out the bags into the bull's inventory, then throw the bag in, and I'll have to take the bags out and refill them when I get back to Retribution.

I grabbed a couple of extra backpacks while at the Flats Lagoon and now we're bringing 9 people over at a time. Also I bring Ibble along to help haul stuff back.

: The Phoenix Slayer can fight.

The biggest pains in the rear end are these Krals chosen who keep thinking we didn't in fact take out the Phoenix or Bugmaster and keep fighting us.

And speaking of taking down the Phoenix, what of our friends the Paladins? They're now Stray Paladins, who are malnourished and often don't have their armor on anymore. They're a complete non factor.

Next batch of goons I bring over I decide instead of hauling dead bodies, we'll haul all our animals over. This way I can have some extra hands for fights when heading back.

: Can I finally walk where its green without rear end in a top hat paladins?

: The Okranite mutt is gone... And by my own blade too, but... Frustration! With him and the Bugmaster gone, who is left to battle?

I appreciate that there is dialogue for taking out both these people. It really hammers in how big of a deal Bugmaster was.

: The exact same as above, but with new stuff!

: We've just taken down a shek-hating god prince. If that doesn't make you happy, what does exactly?

: Death makes me happy.

: You're no fun, you know that? You're the OPPOSITE to fun.

: This knowledge makes me happy :smug:

: :sigh:

And finally after like 2 irl days of moving everyone over we say goodbye to Retribution. Why did I commit to this? Why didn't I say gently caress it and move everyone over without the weights? Cause I'm a stubborn jackass.

And here we are, all goons are together. I throw the bags onto our heaviest fighters, plus Arkanumzilong. When we hit our destination, she will end up with 55 strength. Our weakest character was Dr. Snark who managed to only have 10 strength to this point. She now has 40. Lela went from 50 to 81. And to show how the state scaling is, despite Ibble starting later and Lela having like a 10 point headstart, Ibble is now at 80 as well.

Now the game truly begins, all the way to the southeast.

: Okay, what about grievewraiths? They're definately real.

: I heard they eat brains.

: Nah, that aint grievewraiths. Grievewraiths don't eat meat... They just possess you and then burst you inside out.

: ... Ah okay, that's SO much better. And there I was worried for a second...

We start getting into more hostile territory, there are several hills spewing smoke. Not sure where the smoke is coming from, there are no vents or magma sadly.

: That was a close one. My wife would be worried. Speaking of which... should probably go find her at some point really...

: Wait, you've got a wife?!

: Of course. It's not a problem though, we have an open relationship, see. I'm sure she's found someone else to warm the bed in my absence.

: ... Too much information, old man. Too much information.

: Ever hear of that famous adventurer group, the Ashland Drifters?

Ashland Drifters would make a wicked garage band name.

: Apparently the only people to come back out of the Ashlands alive.

: Seriously... Not the time for this conversation. We're JUST getting to the Ashlands.

: Well, we can't ignore the leviathyn in the room now, can we? If the acid rain doesn't melt our skin off it'll be the dragons that finish us off. I don't even want to know who's idea it was to come here. I guess I'm the idiot for coming along..

: ... What's a dragon?

: Oh they're basically like a leviathyns with wings. But they shoot flames out of their eyes and have giant fangs for crushing the bones of adventurers.

: *heave*

: Nah, you're thinking of winged beak ogres.

: Or dray guns? Yeah they're the turret beams that the headless ancients boil adventurers with. They're made of drays.

: What the gently caress is a dray?

: CAN WE STOP TALKING ABOUT DYING IN THE ASHLANDS PLEASE?

:ohdear:

And speaking of, welcome to the Ashlands. Hope you like constantly spewing smoke!

Enjoy some apacolypse porn.

As I'm trying to set up a base we run into a big, rather sizeable problem. See that plume of smoke top right of the party? That isn't cosmetic, it'll effect any organics and do a LOT of damage to their lungs. Its huge and it moves, if you aren't lucky in trying to get out of the way it can take someone from 100 to 40 chest HP.

I've set up right on the border of the Ashlands and Sonorous Dark, with the latter having constant acid rain. Which isn't good for the non hiver people in the stay at home group since they're still wearing trader's leathers and have no acid rain resistance. I'll have to work on fixing this.

As an aside, I learned that animals are not effected by environmental damage at all.

What types of wildlife is here? Well there is a bunch of iron spiders running around.

....A lot. Had to run from base for a bit.

What is interesting is buildings placed in acid rain areas have this rusty look to them. I threw up this building real quick so I can hide the stay at home people from both the constant hostile skeletons and the acid rain.

In the Ashland area, buildings get this dusting of ash all over. Even inside somewhow.

Saw this near the base, looks like the nose of a plane.

And floating about are these guys, just like back in the Floodlands. We saw them at the start, now we are seeing them at the end. Its like poetry

Welcome to the new base, aptly named 2020. Pretty accurate to California. what with the world breaking fires. Other stuff thats happened to me in 2020:

The kind bakery manager who I saw every day and worked next to my department passed away
Step grandfather passed away
Worked retail during covid panic buying
BREAKING NEWS: As I write this very update we're having yet another wave of panic buying. I'd say better go stock up on toilet paper, but I'm sure its all gone already.
Got moved out of my opening position, starting at 4 am, to closing at 2 pm. Except now I get the worst of both worlds cause my boss is having me 2 days of 4 am and 3 days of 2 pm.
Had the house sold out under me. No late payments on rent, no damage to the property, did everything right but still got a 60 day when the new owners bought the place
BREAKING NEWS: My brother found a listing for the house again, up for rent even! They just raised the rent 25% They kicked us out so they could raise rent since they couldn't do it while we lived there
Fortunately I managed to find a significantly better house. Unfortunately the cat I took as my own at the start of this year could not handle the move and ran away. I haven't seen him for almost 2 months now
My watch died
I'm LPing neptunia again

The only reason I haven't been hit by a bus is cause it would be an improvement.

Anyways I decided to do a 2 gate system, where the gunners can shoot into the back of the enemy. This will also catch any cheating fucks that get pushed through the gates. As to how I managed to get the walls close enough to the outpost building to block pathing? It took me several hours

The back area with the acid rain has all the resources. Well, its got iron, copper, stone and water. The Ashlands have absolutely zero resources. The Y building has our crafting stuff, the stormhouse will have generators and batteries. We'll need it.

The ash side has some wind generators, it actually gets wind unlike the acid rain side. Though the wind doesn't seem to go above 34%, so we're gonna need to run generators. The stephouse has the research set up, watchtower will just be some extra beds and turrets. The outpost building is the usual rest/bed/food area. The stationhouse is hydroponics, growing rice, greenfruit and hemp. The hemp will be used to make biofuel.

Its pretty cozy here in the Ashlands.

Kenshi looks too janky for me to enjoy playing, but the highlights are fantastic. Thanks for showing me the game in a digestible format.

It's curious how the body condition/fainting system means that actually killing someone is uncommon in this game. People are constantly losing gallons of blood, passing out, and having their severed limbs fly across the screen, but death never seems to happen. I would've figured that a post-apocalyptic desert with cannibals, bandits, and zealots roaming everywhere would be more lethal.

Goontang Clan

I may have underestimated our food situation and we may be running out of food. Actually we are out.

The animals in particular are struggling. Thankfully the enemies in this area drop good quality weapons that I can sell and bring back food... though it takes like a solid day to go to and from any nearby cities.

While that is going on, let's take a look around the area. Lots of scaffolding and other metal structures around.

Then there are these egg shaped buildings, if you look at the loading screens they may look familiar.

There are also these nearby, they look like that satellite in The Eye region. Skeletons mentioned there being another one in the sky that shoots the lasers down in Venge, but they don't mention anything about these being strewn all about the Ashlands.

Heading into the egg building proper, there is a bunch of legion thralls hanging around, similar to the ones in Venge.

The building has 3 tiers and has several locked containers around. Thankfully headless robots aren't good at seeing Ibble sneaking around.

Hell we can even open boxes right next to them :v:

:getin:

Also strewn about the floor is stuff like power cores and skeleton parts like eyes and muscles.

I noticed the only skeleton with a head and he is unique named Head of Agriculture, stats approaching the 70s. Wonder why he is running

Oh, thats why. And lemme tell ya, kinda hard to run past a bunch of enemies on a stairwell.

While running off I noticed there is this spot here that is apparently impassible for some reason, so the skeletons just formed a line and stopped.

And then the iron spiders showed up

While making runs for food, I had Lela got to both the scraphouse and the great library, I'm trying to find blueprints for any sort of mask that protects against gas.

And let me assure you, checking every single one of these blueprints one by one, none of them were here. Looking it up, these are the only 2 places... and its a rare spawn. So I decided you know what? We're Goontang, when the hell did I ever do things expediently? gently caress these masks and gently caress the fog! We're just gonna DEAL with it!

Back at base, a unique enemy in the Ashlands are these cleanser units. They're almost like a robotic leviathan, hella HP and do they do hurt. Their name isn't just cosmetic either, any fog they walk past they will clear out.

So of course it wanting to get stuck on our walls gives our turrets the perfect opportunity to fire on it. While the fog clearing effect is nice, taking them out...

... results in crazy profits. AI core, bunch of circuit boards, all those iron and copper plates. The CPU units alone is 24k worth of material.

We managed to survive famine enough to get a good amount of hydroponics going and we're finally making more food then we eat. And now that I no longer need to keep everyone sitting to reduce hunger...

Time to do a more through exploration of the area.

The nearby outpost is another Skin Bandit base. Strangely, despite being right next to it we are never raided by them.

... Though maybe its not a great idea to fight inside of their buildings. What with the indoors bonus their clubs get and the peeler on the top floor that they prioritize throwing people into when they get ko'd.

: Hell! Pissing curse words and that!

Pissing curse words is now gonna be a phrase I say when I get frustrated.

Let me tell you about the fog in the area. Imagine whenever I send a group out of base a sudden plume of fog appears right smack dab in the group. But they're trapped within the walls, so I try to run them out one way. Except oh no, the fog was moving in that direction, gently caress turn back around. Oh ok well now everyone has 20 health left in the chest, time to turn them right back around and into bed.

And then when a second plume appears :unsmigghh:

More scenery, more showing off the legion thralls that are running around.

Also, sometimes there are tech hunters running about. They barely break groups bigger then 4 and as such, they're often getting absolutely destroyed.

And here is a neat thing, thralls can be delimbed., unlike other skeletons.

Approaching another ashland dome, this one has some severe clipping issues.

And while escaping the cleanser and the mob, more iron spiders. I run from a lot of iron spider trains.

: They call me "stubborn old man" for a reason... *spit*

I regret not getting Crumblejon at the start, I saw that he had unique dialogue but the wiki said "mostly revolving around wanting female squaddies to massage his back" and decided nah.

I only saw that text *once*, the other things he says is great. gently caress you wiki :argh:

Peeking inside this dome was another unique skeleton, General Jang. In fact, the dome itself is staffed by a newly named skeleton group, Hydraulic Knights.

Jang has his stats in the mid 80s. The Hydraulic Knights have stats in the 70s.

But we're currently all beaten up, we'll come back later.

It is now later, except this is a new ashland dome.

This one has a skeleton named Rhinobot staffing it. The skeleton troops in this one are Screamer Units.

Rhinobot has his stats in the mid 70s, Screamer Units are in the 60s.

We rush in and I set everyone to hold at the base of the stairwell, just let the enemy come to us.

Except Kenshi jank caused Ardryn to clip up a floor :downs:

Rhinobot didn't come down, so now I'm gonna engage him in honorable one on one combat.

God dammit

FFFFFFF

Goontang plan B: Throw everyone at it.

And McClay gets the kill.

Rhinobot, as well as all the other unique skeletons we've seen, have a unique CPU with some lore in it.

Is this why there are no children in the world of Kenshi? :ohdear:

He also had a Meitou grade topper on him. This one goes to Noire cause if there is one way to get back at you all for that name, its giving a top tier weapon to a non goon.

We head on back to the dome with the Head of Agriculture, THIS time we're gonna do some honorable one on one. I mean, how hard can a farmer be?

Oh you know, just hits Arkanumzilong for 85 damage, with 39 being blocked by the most protective armor anyone is wearing.

Plan B enacted, and this story is relatable with us having food problems at the start.

He also had a Meitou short cleave which goes to Slaan.

Heading on back to General Jang

Time for an honorable one on o

God loving dammit!

Plan B!

Tombot took down the good General.

As of right now there is a proposal that is most likely gonna be passed where you can serve loving jail time for copyright strikes. Can't believe Kenshi is prophetic

Also he had a Meitou guardless katana, which goes to Megane. Who knew stealing 200 cats would let you get a katana worth 62k?

: Hoy, stupid wretched bitchface! Try that again! It'll take more than that to shut ME up!

drat my character is exactly like me!

Going further south we come across some ashland ruins. Sadly no loot of note inside of them.

Nearby though is this hill, covered in metal debris and something floating in the sky.

Heading back to rest up, I see some dialogue from skin bandits that is.. creepy.

: Here. Come to me, flesh sister. Shh.... Don't be afraid... Share your skin with us... It's such pretty skin...

One final dome is intact, this one is staffed by skeletons known as Old Empire Police Captains. They got stats in the 60s

And Dugite loses their left arm. This means I gotta make a trip to black desert city

And the skeleton in charge here is General Hat - 12, with stats around the 80s.

I'm not even gonna pretend to do a one on one here. Anyways here he is negating 107 damage from Rockopolis.

And then returning in kind to bring him to -100 in the head :stonklol:

God dammit we're supposed to be badasses stop doing single digit damage to him!

Scalding Coffee gets the kill.

Oh dear, I wonder who these cultists eventually became.

He had a Meitou heavy jitte and this is when I realized that we don't have a single blunt weapon user in either squad, only the stay at home goons do. So uh I guess grats to SordasVolantyr who is kinda the squad captain for them :v:

At this point all the ashland domes were cleared out. I then spend a lot of time training.

: Don't be mollycoddling me, chumbo! I'm stronger than you'll ever know. I was fighting ninjas while you were still suckling in your mother's womb.

: ... I... Don't even know what to say to that.

I learned that these cleanser units can be really good for training. Since they don't block or dodge you can constantly land hits on them, so I weigh down Lela and Ibble and whoever else and rotate people to attack these punching bags. The downside though is that they seem to just do AoEs around themselves sporadically, also they seem to ignore taunts and will hyperfocus on one person.

: Ah hah ha! Kiss my rear end, loser!

Whats funny though is when they ragdoll they go flying.

: ARG!

Of course there is some concern fighting these, rip Thyrok's leg.

: Stop screaming, it's just a leg.

: Ohh, okay for you, metal man! Sure, I'll just grow a NEW ONE!

: You can get an upgrade, better than any flesh leg....

: GWAH!!

Oh and Beep also lost a leg. He is now 3/4th robotic limb.

: You ain't shutting me up that easy, idiot petty fuckface!

- me, in any online argument

And now... its time. All the way to the Ominous Place.

So yeah I just did 200 damage as an opener move against a skeleton, no biggie.

Welcome everyone, to Cat-Lon's Exile.

Now that we are closer, we can see that object in the sky is not being held up by anything. Its kinda hard to look at it, since Kenshi doesn't have a "look up" camera option, I have to move my camera to floor level and hope the angle will point upwards.

There are 2 standing buildings in the valley, one is just an ashland dome but the other is labelled "Throne"

And here he is, in the metal. Mad Cat-Lon, stats between 85-100. When we approach, he stands up and starts talking.

: Has my judgement come so soon? I had to thrall them all! Traitors siding with the humans! Treason! Now we are nothing! What was the point of it all!

: Beep is also a skeleton.

: ...okay...

: .....

: ....

He just sat back down and isn't hostile.

He is supposed to have a speech then attacks, but Beep's interjection makes his dialogue stop to react, and since he didn't finish the speech he just chills.

It was good everyone, my most successful LP and wow, even gold? I can't believe that organically happened. I'm gonna clean up some things to archive and send it on over. I like how it ended, not with violence, but understanding between 2 different kinds of people. That is a lesson that is sorely needed in today's world. Remember everyone: open palm, not a closed fist.

.....

You want violence, don't you?

:sigh:

And Why No One Fucks With Them

Let's load an earlier save and get ready for some hell training. First off we're gonna head on back to Mourn.

Remember this guy? Feels like an age.

He has a lot of health, and some of his stats are over 100. This will ensure we'll always get xp off him, and at lower skills we'll get a lot of xp.

The local guards decide to jump in as well, could always use someone else to take the hits especially since I didn't bring that many people and we were getting wrecked

: Who's the boss, eh? HA!

We pick him up and promptly patch him up.

Your "reward" for killing this beast is 3 bits of his skin, each worth 3k. 9k total :flaccid:

: Forsaken howlers... One of many monsters said to dwell in the Forbidden Zone. They'll suck out your eyeballs and leave you blind in the Ashlands.

: ... *gulp* Great... We'll cross that bridge when we get to it, eh...

: Too late! You'll have no eyes!

: ...

: And they've got all these tentacle arms they snatch you with... And-

: All in favour of NO talking say "aye"

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

: Aye!

Traitors, the lot of ya. Especially the ones that weren't even with this group who answered.

I plop him in a bed to heal up faster, and just look at his goofy rear end face

I then set up a stormhouse and drop him in. He can't leave the building, so I put someone in to get their rear end kicked then have someone nearby pull them out.

I also have Dr Snark make some crab armor, leggings and helmet. The defense will keep our people conscious longer so they can get more xp.

: Ok, ok, now I'm serious!

The Gorillo attacks fast, so even though he is hitting for 7-11 HP its coming out fast. And the fact he always seems to hit the chest means that person is knocked out within a minute.

I decide to rotate out the armor and lets put one of the newer recruits against the beast.

At 51 melee defence and at 25% to the next level...

1 single hit gave him 22% of a level.

By the time Thyrok falls he gains 4 levels worth of melee defence. I can quickly get people up to 70 defence just getting smacked around, if waiting for people to sleep off the damage wasn't so time consuming.

: That's IT! Come at me, lovely insignificant bitchface!

Now THATS an insult I'm gonna be using from now on

I threw Noire in at some point without the crab armor and she lost both a leg and arm, I didn't realize this guy could delimb people :stare:

This process was long, so long that like 7 cleaner units spawned and were shot down by turrets. My money problems are gone.

I think I trained high enough, I got Lela to 97 dodge and around 88 martial arts and seeing that it took multiple hits to get a single percentage of xp to the next level was killing my soul. Lets take care of a few loose ends, and see how the training worked out.

Near the skinhouse HQ is this barrier tower, it is FULL of upgraded watchbots on harpoon turrets. We'll just be ignoring these guys.

At the HQ, SquirrelGrip gets ready for some revenge.

I set everyone on hold and stay around the entrance, letting the bandits slowly trickle to us. Not only will this keep AOE damage low and not risk someone falling and getting promptly picked up by a bandit and thrown into a peeler, it also makes it easier for me to pull their CPUs without digging through a bunch of bodies.

Also Lela's jump attack hits for over 200 damage now.

Eventually all that is left is a single skin bandit with damaged arms. It is time to rush the throne room. I trained up SquirrelGrip a bit for her duel with Savant

... And Savant was asleep.

*yoink*

Savant Carried a Meitou nodachi, I hand it on over to Guarstine.

Also on his person was a blueprint that will allow us to make the skin suits... and the peeler machine. So we could make our own machine and execute our enemies. Or throw our own people in to delimb for robot limbs, if you're twisted

: You'll pay., Oh, you'll loving pay.

: I'm already collecting, with interest

I uh... wasn't aware the machine ACTUALLY peeled the skin off. I thought it just took off the limbs and it was implied that it was peeling.

And like his other victims, Savant ends up in an incinerator.

After taking out Savant all the skinhouses now change over to the southern hive. I think at this point we've helped them out more than the Crab Raiders in the area.

.... Also for some reason there are more Reavers around here :psyduck: I double checked, I headed back to Ark and its still owned by the Crab Raiders. I have no idea whats going on with the Reavers.

: Red bits for King!

We're now heading into Southern Hive territory and my god they do not shut up about feeding us to their king.

The hive itself has this large dome building in it, surrounded by a few of the usual hive buildings.

Inside we find the Queen of the South on her throne. She looks a bit.. different than regular hivers.

Zooming in real close, these is some sort of robotic... thing, around her stomach, with tubes that feed inside of her. Also her health isn't the normal yellow health bars, but the gray ones that skeletons have.

Nearby I spot this large robot, named King. The King is a giant robot, a "crimper" robot. He is the only one of this kind and holy poo poo those stats.

:tviv:

He also has tons of HP to boot, with 1,200 for his head and 450 for his legs being the lowest.

I've trained for this. I space people out and slowly approach him

And he proceeds to hit for 60 damage. We're hitting him for less than 20.

: Know what they called me back in the UC? The White Ripper. Let me show you why

So.... yeah we're getting kinda wrecked, I tried bringing in people with hackers and heavy weapons but the King is absolutely loving them up. Also more hiver patrols keep wandering in, it may be time to retread.

Especially since Lela has now lost her other leg :gorn:

I throw another stealth leg on her, and now she can get 100 stealth even while wearing metal armor and carrying a person and she naruto runs at 32 MPH.

: Greeee! Fleshy ones!

: That's ours!

: Looter!

After resting back up and heading back, seems the patrols are awake. Same as back at the Skinhouse HQ, just slowly working towards the building in hold stance and letting a few people take the hits.

At the entrance of the dome building is 2 hive buildings that keeps popping out more and more guards. Just have to keep taking it slowly...

Oh hey King. Wait what

If there is one perk to these buildings, its that King can't get in here. I wait around until the King heads off then enter the dome.

(Queen): GREEE!

: Queen!

: QUEEN!

: Forgive us, Queen!!

: Ngaah!

The queen is surrounded by about 20 elite droneguards, and these guys were a problem. They had stats in the 70s and had MK tier weapons and high levelled armor.

Forgive the camera angle, there is a walkway above where everyone is at and moving the camera anywhere near it makes the camera go up a floor. The top left has the Queen, compared to her guard her stats aren't much to write about. 45s, but every single one of her HP bars only hits 75.

So Lela proceeded to kick the Queen in her stomach for 150 damage and instantly killed her.

The Queen did have a Meitou grade polearm on her, which goes to SquirrelGrip.

Near the Queen's throne, which looks pretty robotic as well, is a handful of locked chests. One of them had a blueprint for a copy of that throne.

: I'm getting too old for this madness

Hell, same.

Now that the Queen is dead, Hive Bandits spawn around the area now. They got stats in the 20s and spawn very hungry. They look like the Western Hive hivers, and I think this may be from the Living Worlds mod? It mentioned something about the West Hive taking over.

However, upon returning to the South Hive it is now filled with fogmen.

The skinhouses are now destroyed ruins, the entire South Hive is gone.

If we were to take out the Western Hive queen, their areas would also become fogmen areas. A lot of fogmen areas are also referred to as a "dead hive", seems the queens do something that keep the hivers sane (well, comparatively)

Now... its time.

Lela currently has 97 dodge, 88 martial arts, above 80 in strength and dex and 77 toughness. She has on a master grade dustcoat, a specialist black chainmail shirt, specialist samurai pants and specialist straw hat.

: Has my judgement come so soon? I had to thrall them all! Traitors siding with the humans! Treason! Now we are nothing! What was the point of it all? Have you tried looking after humans? They're monsters! As they grow in number, so does their capacity for evil, and they won't even notice as they do it. I was not the monster.

: WRRREEEEEE!

First blood goes to Lela

When Cat Lon yells out, the nearby ashland dome has a flood of thralls that come storming out.

: SKRREEEEEE

: EEEEEEEEEEE

There is a LOT of them in there. Everyone is on block duty

A lot

You know that scene in the Two Towers where Aragorn and Gimli jump onto that bridge leading to the gate at Helm's Deep? They were swinging swords around and the urukhai were falling off the edges of the bridge? This is that, but with katanas and if there was 20 Aragorns and Gimlis

I lead Cat Lon up the top of the tower, both to make it climatic and so that there is more space for me to run around in.

I've been manually controlling Lela during this fight, whenever she made an attack I would then make her run off to avoid Cat Lon's counter.

I also want to keep her far away so she is more likely to pull of this attack, it attacks twice and from a distance. Less of a risk of Cat Long striking first. A single hit from Cat Lon absolutely fucks me up, to the tune of 60 damage. To an armored part.

The biggest pain in the rear end is this strike, this one right here. It comes out hella quick, way faster than the overhead swing and it has a wide arc of an attack. These are the hits that got me.

There is one huge thing working for you against Cat Lon: He has exactly the amount of strength needed to swing his sword. It weighs 40kg, he has 80 strength. As he gets more and more damaged his strength drops, which makes his sword strokes come out slower. A couple of smacks to his chest and this attack comes out so much slower that it becomes a guarantee that I wont be hit by it.

: Dang!

And after a solid 45 minutes of doing constant pauses, running around, getting very familiar with attack, dodge and block animations to know if an attack was gonna hit or not and move as needed, I did it.

I 1 v 1 Cat Lon and won.

Cat Lon had a Meitou grade Falling Sun, which goes to Anilehilated. But really, do we need it?

The other dome is completely full of the bodies of the thralls. There has to be over 120 of them here.

Its been done.

Cat Lon's CPU, 60 grand. Interesting thing: There is a second copy of Cat Lon's CPU that is worth 100k and has a different description

quote:

Cat-Lon's dream was to rebuild civilisation and make up for past mistakes. His empire was vast and focused on study of the lost technologies.

But a thousand years is a long time to live. You slowly accumulate fears and prejudices from your bad experiences. You change, become angry. Before you know it, you're a dictator. Over time the population requires more and more force to keep them opressed.

Science and archaeology flourished in the empire until an explosion in the Grid caused a famine.

There is a lot of interesting things to learn from this.

Now... with the prisoner recruit mod we could recruit Cat Lon :v: The dialogue tree required entering a certain combination of responses that I somehow managed to completely guess first try. I reloaded without thinking of checking the log, sorry.

Here we are at the end, for real this time. Here is some of my thoughts in regards to Cat Lon and some of the game world:

Cat Lon was the leader of the second empire, attempted to keep things working out until he started to go crazy. Him calling out how humans were evil, and only become more evil, might be related to the mass deaths of the gigantic skeletons in Obedience all the way at the start of the LP. With the CPUs of the other skeletons in the Ashlands, the stories all gradually turned into the skeletons starting to become harsher and harsher towards humans.

Start the Holy Nation. I swore it was said in this LP but I can't find it, but when walking through Holy Nation lands sometimes a skeleton will mention "The first Phoenix had noble intentions". I believe the Holy Nation started as a rebellion movement against Cat Lon, and as the generations go on the movement started veering off from its original intent and becoming the xenophobic, misogynistic Holy Empire it is now.

At World's End, when talking to Iyo as a skeleton he explicitly says "Don't worry, no one will ever know the truth". Iyo is working with the Machinists and Tech Hunters that go out and find old technology and possibly documents from old times, giving him first dibs on any information that comes in. When talking to a non skeleton however, he'll mention that he, and all skeletons, can do a memory wipe and they forget for good. This makes me believe that some of the Holy Nation's accusations against skeletons to be true, they did awful things and are pretending to not remember due to wipes to steer people away from asking about it.

Other skeletons did not agree with Cat Lon, he explicitly calls other skeletons treasonous and that he had to thrall all the ones in the Ashlands. Stobe had supposedly sacrificed himself to save everyone, including humans. Cat Lon and Tin Fist were a duo of some sort in the past, and now Tin Fist leads a group of anti slavers who explicitly wants to save humans. And as mentioned above, even the skeletons themselves say "The first Phoenix had noble intentions", you don't say that about someone if you didn't believe in their goals (saving humans from Cat Lon's aggression)

That Cat Lon screams out "WREEE", the exact same sound that the fogmen scream out, and the hive queens being either a robot or cyborg, makes me think that hivers may have been some sort of genetic experiment that Cat Lon attempted. Possibly some sort of plan to wipe out everything that isn't a skeleton, as skeletons cannot be eaten by fogmen?

I'm not gonna act like an authority, just some thoughts I've had on this.

See ya around, drifter.

I had wondered if the non-fight would be the conclusion! Glad it ended with you beating up and recruiting(?) Cat Lon, redeeming him like the villain in them animes.

Stay tuned for Kenshi 2 where he turns into a rebel-with-a-heart-of-gold and gets a major power downgrade to make the next set of ultimate fights seem even more challenging by comparison.

Wonderful, thanks for the great LP, I really enjoyed it!

Your lore thoughts reminded me of this really cool series of posts from the Kenshi subreddit. I think they outline a very convincing and coherent story for the lore/history of the world. Linked below if others are curious, broken up into talking about the First Empire and then the Second Empire.
