Fact #1 The Moon is really cool

Super Jay Mann posted:

Dang this episode was great. I'll probably have to watch this again, but did Riri literally turn her body into six kemurikusa or just "copy" herself and imprint her memories onto the leaf? Would the "real" Riri still be alive (or possibly just dead?) or are the six literally her? Is the current Wakaba the same as the one in the memories or a copy made in the same way Riri was? So many questions and it's not next week yet. :ohdear:

That post-credits scene though... I should have expected it after how KF 11 ended but Tatsuki is one mean son of a bitch :allears:

I was curious since when Riri was running you heard Wakaba yell for Rin-san to run. Just man this show is pulling out things I wasn't super expecting it to.

I'm pretty sure that was present-Wakaba yelling at Rin from outside the flashback. We see why he was yelling in the post-credits stinger.

I'm not sure what this is for, but Tatsuki also did a few short manga chapters that go up to episode 10 or so.

There's not really anything new, but there were a few frames from a show promo page that I liked. Presumably from before things went to poo poo.

With a fairy tale kiss from Rin-chan, Wakaba somehow gets revived.
"'gratulations"
"Once would have been fine..."

Somehow and like this and that all the sisters get revived.
"Banzai!"

With everyone they somehow stop the red tree and red mist and there's lots of water.
"Yay!"

Wakaba's and Riri's memories return to Wakaba and Rin for some reason, and they have a reunion (Their previous memories don't disappear)
"I know you!"

In some inexplicable and mysterious way they depart on another journey

i want to achieve immortality through not dying
I figured that was what was going on when the "dead" sisters kept conveniently showing up nearby whenever Wakaba wandered off by himself, and the second set showed they were sharing a body.

The action was...really rough. Fun mystery and atmosphere though.

Yeah the animation at parts are not exactly the best. But the rest satisfied me.

She smiled and said "I love you" to Wakaba." Ship confirmed and everything is good!

I was pretty happy with this ep, but I sure wish they didn't use a minute and a half on the OP because the story ended up rushed and could've used that time to slow down a little.

It's a really good OP though

I'm glad I didn't drop this early on. It had the seeds of something greater from the start and hot drat did they bloom.

Agreed that the action was real rough at times, the studio definitely isn't ready to do the next Land of the Lustrous, but character moments like these make it all worth it. What a smile.

The action scenes in this epsiode were probably the roughest of the entire series.

Probably the largest scale too, but either way yeah it wasn't good. The running scenes were real awkward especially.

The sound wasn't matching what was happening in certain parts too. I'm hoping they will improve the quality for the DVD/BD release.

Some last thoughts, in no particular order:
  • Despite some poor art and bad animation, this ended up being one of my favorite series this season. Tatsuki does a good job teasing out these mysterious worlds with characters you take a liking to.
  • Speaking of which, how crazy a decision was it to use Wakaba as a main character? Imagine: you're pretty much on your own after losing the job that made you famous, and if your original work doesn't sell here it's entirely possible that you never helm a full-length show again. So here's Wakaba, annoyingly curious, not particularly masculine, and just plain weird. I think most showrunners would've played it safe with a more traditional shonen hero.
  • There are still some plot points I still don't understand--how did all three sisters show up against the red tree? Old Wakaba had a ship within a ship? What was Riku looking for in that mall?--but I guess they don't really matter.
  • I've re-watched a few episodes, and if you liked the show it's well-worth it. Good foreshadowing and you'll probably catch some musical cues that come up later.
  • The voice acting was pretty adorable here, especially the lost sisters. Ryo's voice is practically hypnotic.
  • Wakaba couldn't quite "protect that smile," but Rin herself and her sisters did. Nice touch.
  • Going into episode 11, I could not figure out how there was possibly enough time to explain the lore behind what was going on. Turns out they did a pretty good job of it. Poor Riri.
  • I'm glad that a show in as bleak a setting as this one ended happily. Rin finally got her sparkles!

The sisters showed up because Rina gave up her clones to give Rin her cloning leaf, allowing the three to manifest independently from each other. Not sure how exactly they were showing up before, but they were being stored in the memory leaf.
